Say what you want but customer service is everything. As I've posted elsewhere, when Oblaka wins the lottery, where do you think he will deposit his 50 million ? It won't be the bank that decided he was too much trouble to deal with. The one solution my CU has in place is a coin counter that charges 5%...my CU goes out of their way for my coin purchases and last year we got a 1% bonus on all deposits because they made extra profit...anybody wonder if that might have anything to do with customer service ?

Maine you cant play " if he wins a million in the lottery he will come see us" he has not and chaces are 99.9% never will.
Even if he did pay 5% dump fee in the change counter, chances are he is doing it at another bank not the one he orders from.
Go to mcdonalds and order a meal , ask for a cup of water. Sure no prob here is a free cup. Ask she gives you a smile Now ask for 500 free cups and see what they tell you. Then go back every week order a meal and ask for 500 fre cups. See how quick the smile goes away

copper...you missed the point but let me splain it a little...Oblaka tells his family...they tell their friends...they tell their friends. Having owned a booming business and sold to a man with your line of thought.I saw the results first hand but no matter what I told him...he insisted. He went bankrupt in 3 years.
So let's just say "Been there, done that and got a T-shirt for it"

Rudeness from $5/hr. peons is never acceptable. Complain to the manager and get the clerk fired. When his family ends up at a foodbank or searching garbage cans for food, he'll get the message.

peiper1 gets the idea...there is a courteous way to say "no" or charge extra and still have a happy customer.

Dealing with the public is sometimes really irritating to say the least. Just look at all the differences of opinions righ here on this one post so imagine a company, Credit Union or Bank, full of people that have to deal with people all day long. Yes, as a rule people that deal with people SHOULD try to be somewhat more courteous. HOWEVER, having to put up with people that DEMAND, ORDER, SCREAM, RANT all day long can really get to anyone after a while. Actually, we here are only hearing one side of the story. Just as in a divorce, where you hear only one side of the story, it's always the fault of the other one. Not saying what happened did not happen, but way to many times all of us tend to repeat something that happens a little differently than what really did happen. It is a really known fact that the more a story is told, the more it changes. As to coins from a Bank. By me unless you own a buisness that requires coins and have proof of that, most banks will not give you any bulk coins. Even if your a customer. None will order Halves any more either. And to bring in bulk coins, they are put into a bag, shipped out for counting, the results are entered into your account. And there is a charge for that service. No account? A check will be sent to your and there is an even larger charge for that.

no offense meant, but what other side could there really be? I walked in there and said "hi, could I buy some coin from you guys?" etc. its not like I went in there and immediately started demanding it.

"Try to rationalize it anyway you like." --scubu
funny. what are you here to represent the association of banks frustrated with roll searchers?
where do you get off man? you don't even seem to have read the post. I clearly said that I'm not ordering coin at this place. the bank has customers that dump tons of coin on them every week and then the bank, in turn, has to send them to the fed every week...their policy, as I've already said, IS THAT THEY DON"T ORDER COIN. do I need to make that in bold? anyway, I go in there and buy the CWR of dimes, nickels, and pennies every week and the only way it could possibly cost the bank is in the 15 extra minutes of work a single teller has to do in order to walk from the vault and dump them in my coin bag. it's that simple. this isn't a rationalization. how exactly do you think this transaction of mine damages them?
also, maine is right, as usual. being that I just got out of college, I had no money whatsoever six months ago. now, specifically because I've spent so much time roll hunting, I've got a sweet little nest egg feathered for me. and where do you think I keep that money? I've put it into the credit union because I've only done so well because they've allowed me to do all this. they have definitely made money on me, and until the other day I was quite happy with it.

Oblaka and Maine are right. I recently came into a good sum of money. After having very low balances for a while and being forgiven a few hundred dollars in overdraft fees from US bank I decided to keep my money at their bank. Why? Because they have ALWAYS treated me well. Whenever I asked for boxes to search through, they never complained. I even dumped them back at the same bank and never once got even a sideways glance from the tellers. So they've earned my money with excellent customer service and bank policy. I was going to put all of my money in a small local bank that could really use it right now. But I didn't because of one, US bank has been good to me, but 2 (and this was the deciding factor) I went in to this local bank once and asked if they could order halfs for me. The manager wasn't just rude, but mean, so now they don't get my money. It is small policies like that which will attract more customers. And what skin is it off of their back to order coin anyhow? I mean, they are going to order it whether I ask for a couple boxes to be thrown in with the next order or not. It is just good policy to keep your crazy roll searching customers happy! lol ;)

Peiper, I have an issue with that statement. He'll probably be searching rolls, not for cans. lol

Funny how this just came up tonight in a conversation. My wife mentioned I roll search coins while at a next door neighbor get together
Watching super bowel a lady at this party manages a bank
I asked her about getting coins and cashing them in. She told me the counter machine gets emptied from a outside source to be recounted and wrapped in rolls then boxed. Every week more coins come to the bank when she sends the order for what is needed on Friday in comes Monday and a small order can be placed on Wend delivered friday if they look short for the weekend. They have a few extra boxes in case they need them stashed away to the sides.
I asked her what does a box of coins cost the bank ?
She told me they have to pay someone to empty the machine , pay a guy that picks them up ,pay for new roll boxes delivered, pay the tellers to give them out
I asked her a rough guess at the cost per box ? She said it was hard to factor with all the steps and people involved in the coin process.
I then asked what if someone was ordering 1000's of dollars of boxes a week or asking for it every week? She replied I would not authorize it unless they had a commercial account or a balance of $10,000 total in personal accounts . That way they would be a elite customer I'd order as many boxes as they wanted as long as they wanted
I asked about the average Joe with say a 500$ account balance. She said I'd look in the back vault or have someone do it if we had alot of coins sure, if we looked low on coins I would not do it.
She manages a credit union .

copper...you're still missing the point...and we do realize that every service can be looked at as a cost. But here is my CU's method. They bought a coin counter that bags the coins...the 5% charge pays for the machine...it puts them in bags that cost 60 cents each...the tellers empty the machine as they are there regardless. As for ordering...if a bank has to order coins for commercial customers, how much effort does it take to change the number from 1000 to 2000.If the manager you talked to doesn't know a cost, she is making decisions based on emotion, not facts.

last week, whilst picking up some halves, the manager comes up to me and says "i know we've been getting these for you but it reallly costs us more to get delivered than 100,000.00 in paper money would cost."
"oh wow" I said.
he then replies "so I have just one question: where are you dumping?"
"bofa"
"ok, well in that case good luck and see you next week."
