A few months ago I got two boxs of halves from my bank, they had to order them special, I found about a doz silvers and re-rolled leftovers and returned to the bank for deposit.
Yesterday I went to the same bank and asked if they would order me a box of halves, they said no, "because we don't use them and when you return them we have to pay to send them back" to which I said, " I promise not to bring them back to the bank" and the response was, "we will still have to charge you because it costs us to have them delivered" I was taken aback and didn't ask how much the charge was but this seems out of the ordinary.
Does anyone pay to have a bank get boxes of halves (or other coins)?
I am just dealing with a bad bank?

In my area banks don't order halfs period. At least the two banks I have accounts with. The same banks in other areas seem to do it on a regular basis no problem. Like Bank of America where I live won't order but I see people ordering from Bank of America elsewhere.

Ya I am having the same problem with my bank... only they charge 5 dollars if you order any box of coins and won't order boxes of halves at all. So right now I have to go in and just ask for 25 dollars in pennies or 200 dollars in quarter rolls and get what they give me (Whether they are customer rolls or rolls they get from their company). I am switching banks next month when they get their start their new checking account type that I want. So like I said until this happens I have to deal with whatever they give me or pay 5 dollars per box and I am going through about 2 or 3 a week.

Taking your rejects back to the same bank is a big no-no (except in the rare case where a bank specifically asks for them). Time to find a different bank for your silver prospecting.

Banks will charge for coin orders if you buy boxes of uncommon coins and bring them back to discourage searching. Find a bank that doesn't charge and then use another bank as your "dump" bank

agree.
oof, bob. you may have screwed yourself as far as that bank-relationship goes. worry not, there are others.
also, yes it really adds up. the bigger banks you order from will often have to pay a flat rate for, say, anything up to 50 items or something. so, you want to find a bank that has that flat rate and that doesn't order all 50 items. believe me, they pay a HUGE premium if they order above the allotted number of items, too. one of the banks I dealt with in the past was paying 80.00 every week to order me boxes. over six months that adds up and someone has to explain why the bank is out a couple grand for no reason.

Don't dump where you eat. It's a fundamental rule of not only roll searching, but life.

My bank flatly refused to order a box of halves. Didn't even give me a chance to be charged for their S+H.

None of the banks in my area will order halves for me. I have been to 8 different banks and they all said "No Sir". Luckily I can order large amounts of rolled coins for my business but even when I told them my business would begin using half dollars in the registers they still said "No Sir". Oh well, looks like I'm down to cherry picking and paying retail..... for now.... But I have had luck with cents, dimes, and nickels that I buy from my business bank.

The branch I get my halves from is supposed to be charging me $10 per box. Somehow the manager has taken a liking to me and orders a box or two per week for "on hand stock". How much longer this will last I am unsure of, but it's been this way for a couple months now. Prior to that I was able to order 5-6-7 boxes without issue.

Yup, I had one bank that I was using try to charge me for ordering boxes, so I stopped using them as an order bank and started using them for dumping. After about 3 months of that, they informed me that I'd now be charged for dumping too. I took my business elsewhere and haven't had any other problems with any other banks.

mine will order them but it's such a pain dumping and I was finding so many marked coins that I gave it up. I do some nickels but the one teller who I get along with real well showed me that they only have a very small vault and she told me se could order for me but I could not bring them back (i never have dumped there), which I promised not to do.

Becoming more and more common everywhere. By me this is now true of almost all Banks. The reason I was given by a Banks Officer was due to all the people lately getting bulk coins and then returning them right back to them. Even worse is the latest craze of short rolls. Banks get them now all the time with either one coin short or a few washers thrown in as a filler. Many Banks no longer have coin counters so all bulk coins must be sent out for counting and they are charged for that service so it is now passed on to the customers. Most customers don't want to pay for this so the Banks just stopped ordering or accepting bulk coins. It is there company so if a customer doesn't like that, go somewhere else. What really gets me about all this is one Bank I use I've gone to for about 30 years and I too get that same treatment. They just don't care. It's there company so again, don't like the service, go somewhere else.

If you have a casino somewhere around your home turf... that's the place to go. Hit one cashier's cage, get all the halves you can, sort through them and sort out the 40% and 90%, then take them back to that cage. Then hit a different cage and do it again. Lots of folks bring their halves from home and some don't know the silver content. I have paid for a trip or two by doing this. Good luck!

This has been discussed a billion times on CC.
Of course they are going to charge you. They are in business to make money..... or in this case break even. Glady offer to pay the fee, it's probably cheap and could be easy to make up by finding silver. You should be thanking them for offering you a deal. Most banks will flatly turn you away.
