Loved this entire thread. I am 3 short myself (both the Seated Liberty dollars and the classic head large cent) and would love to complete the set this year!

Such a great accomplishment! All your coins consistency in condition just jumps off the pages at me! Outstanding!

Wow... first time I've eyed this thread... very cool, jbuck! I've actually never worked on a type set... My mindset has always been it was something I would work on after I completed the major sets that I wanted to complete... Once I finish up my Mercury dimes and Buffalo nickels, I just might invest in a 7070 and start plugging away...
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

Thank you! It is never too late or too soon to start a type set. You probably have most of it just sitting around now anyway, so if you find a good deal on a 7070 you should grab it.

Having received a 7070 from a kind US collector, I somehow still didn't get an immediate urge to fill it. Maybe because I know it would be way over my budget? Currently, if I didn't miscount, I have 22 holes filled, and another 16 waiting until I find the misplaced coin and/or select a nice example (not counting the Silver Eagle - my example of that type is in a plastic holder and should darn well stay there). However, I have mostly ran out of types that I could easily afford; already a good part of my US type set consists of either unexpectedly lucky purchases, or gifts by CCF members (especially if contest prizes count). In fact the only coin I've specifically bought to fill a hole in my 7070 was the 1964 Kennedy half (somehow I didn't have one yet).

The tougher holes are certainly challenging. I can only imagine it being exponentially more difficult for those outside the US.
