Hey everybody, I'm stuck between a couple of coins. I just want one at the moment, but they are all quite different. The first coin I am interested in is the 1900 GW commemorative coin  Here is the Missouri Centennial. I really like the design of this coin, but it's so darn expensive!  Lastly, here is the Vermont commemorative coin. I really like the reverse, but the obverse is alright.  If you guys think that these coins are a bad choice, I can always go with a nice barber half. Can't go wrong there! Thanks in advance! |

My favorite of the three is the Lafayette dollar, plus its the first us commemorative to bear the face of a us president and the first dollar commemorative as well

Well I am not like most collectors. I don't have any intention on completing a set or anything of that matter. I plan on buying each of the coins I like only once. So far I have a morgan, an 1826 capped bust, and now I would like one of these. I personally am leaning towards the missouri, but I found that the prices are pretty tough. What I might do is return my 1826 if I dont like it (it hasn't shipped to my house yet), then buy one of these guys. I also love the fact that they are made out of silver, and they have really unique cool designs. If any of you guys know a place that has fair prices for old commemorative's, please post a link, it will be much appreciated! Thanks.

have you looked at Harlen J Berk site? he usually has quite a few of classic commems raw and graded and seems to be pretty reasonable according to other places I have seen. If he says lightly cleaned you usually need a microscope to see it but he lists all problems of every coin so you know if there is a problem before you order and they are very nice to work with in my own experience http://www.harlanjberk.com/unitedst...torygroup=us . There may be better sites but I would never recommend any sites I have never dealt with myself so this is the first one that came to mind |

Thanks a ton bryan! Sadly they only have a high end ms Missouri atm. But I will try contacting the dealer and see what I get.

My suggestion is that you buy a good book and do some serious research before you spend the $$ needed for any of these coins. Trust me on this .... you can easily spend a lot of money and end up with a lot of junk. A suggestion is " The Guide Book of United States Commemorative Coins" by respected author Q David Bowers ... an official RedBook Guide and available most anywhere coins are sold. David |
