I've almost completed my Mercury dime set. I went to the Bay State Coin Show in Boston today and picked up a few of the final coins (none were key dates, just hard for me to find). I still need a 1916-D but I will be holding off on the one for a while. I figure I'll put away $25 a week and whatever pocket change I get and next year I can pick up a VG. The average for the set is VG, there are a couple G's and a couple XF's, but I have invested a total of $67 into this set so far. That INCLUDES the Dansco album! I've been very fortunate with this set.

There sits the whole of the 1916-D.

You may notice there are two extra holes filled. One is the 1945 Micro S and the other is a spare 1921.

Nice looking set! The 16-D will be the icing on the cake

I would buy it certified by one of the "big 3" TPG's. So many altered coins out there.

Good luck with the set.

What about the 42/1 and 42/1 D ? You already got those?

mkman123, I don't consider the the 42/1 and what not part of the set. They are just varieties of the year(s). After I pick up the 16-D I may consider those, but I don't "need" them. What I need is to get my other Dansco's rolling!

When I am putting together a set of a particular series, I don't bother with the varieties either.

Need the 1916D. I've heard that one before. My Mercs stalled at the same spot.

I started doing this set by buying like 5 coins to add to what I had. I have 18 different coins
silver rose and my set slowed down
if anyone has extras you could post them in the trade column where I could get my hands on them lol
looks great though Congrats

My PCGS AG3 set me back $600 but that was a few years ago. Now, they are more like $800.
All depends on your budget, but I have seen FR2 examples in the high $400 to mid $500 range.

I'm in no rush to finish it off. I enjoyed putting this set together and I did it in record time, just under 3 weeks. I have 47 coins to go to finish off my Roosevelt collection in MS-65 or better in P D & S, so I will keep that going then down the line come back to the Merc's.
My biggest problem is I don't know what set to start now!! Lol

Very nice!

My Mercury dime set has three holes. I am sure we all know what three holes I am talking about.
