I'd like to make a prediction. I think the $20 Tulip with Venetian Glass Ladybug will be the coin to have this year. That is if you like to have a coin that is definitely going to shoot up in value. This coin has all of the earmarks, very low mintage, new style of design, sold out at the mint already. I would not be surprised to see this going for over $300.00 on ebay with in a month. .... of course this is just a prediction. http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/20-fi...Id=cat410002I understand you can still get these at the post office. |

You may be right North of 49, though personally I agree with ayejay1974. Gluing stuff to collector coins is pretty tacky. The RCM can be the first to stick a magnet to a coin as well. Or make the first iPod that is a coin that isn't really a coin but is actually a coin... Being the first to come up with some lame, tacky, marketing words and gimmicks is just that. Now if the RCM came up with a gold foil coin with chocolate on the inside... you could spend the coin or eat it... truly a first!! :P |

Just how far will the mints (North and South) of the border go anymore? It will be hard to get a proper. air tight holder for this ladybug coin! I used to like it when an occasional odd coin came out to commemorate something. I used to remember, as a kid, being envious of the bright colors on Canadian currency vs the US greenbacks. I liked the rabbit nickels and wolf half dollars in the 1967 series. I also liked the 1973 RCMP quarters. But then it seemed they started to make a new design for every time the sun peeked over the horizon. I got frustrated at trying to get a complete since there were so many. Besides that, it made the rabbit, wolf, etc. not seem so special anymore. Now the US is doing the same thing.
I can see how variety collectors are probably having a great time. But my interests lie elsewhere.
I also admit that every once in awhile I like one of the special items. I bought on of the Canadian, triangular-shaped 50cent pieces honoring Milkmen of the past (who woulda' thunk it - a COW on a coin?). And I also ordered the special Canadian 2005 nickel made of silver - but I always was a Canada Nickel addict anyway so this was a given when they offered it.

Perth Mint has been issuing a series of pure silver kilogram colourised coins for the Chinese calendar, where the animals' eyes are diamond studded. You don't often see them on the aftermarket. I think the Chinese like to keep them.

I'll see if I can hustle one up as an anniversary gift. I hate it, Mrs. Ugly loves it. Guess who's opinion counts?

Mrs Ugly's opinion has more weight for sure. So I'd let her win this battle if I were you.  I expect to have problems scanning this coin. Hum. Well....I might just knock off the bug and sell it separately... or put on my wife's pillow.  |

C_C you should give/sell the ladybug to Ugly and then Ugly can glue it to his coin and have two ladybugs. Whomever has the most ladybugs on their coin has the best coin! :P

We will probably have to come up with a grading system for the ladybugs also. After awhile some could become scuffed, chipped, or have some of the details of their spots rub off. I still want to see one of these slabbed!
