At the RCM you can find a link where they are selling the New Zealand Mints two new sets of Star wars commemorative Silver coins. I know some people who would like these - but around 525.00 US for 4 ounces of silver is a bit much for my wallet. But what a markup! At the NZ website its 380.22 (+55 shipping) The NZ site also sells silver plated base metal coins for 20.00. Some are pretty cool looking though!

I love star wars. But I can't justify spending over $500 on$120 worth of silver. They're just pictures of the characters, nothing fancy.

I got mine (both the sets) straight from the NZ mint. I saved more than $200 compared to the RCM prices.

Don't forget to add $80 US for shipping. (MCMs don't pay shipping). But still a better deal to buy direct from NZ.

Don't know why the RCM sells these... Looking to get into the secondary market and make a quick buck? A deal struck between mints to distribute over-minted/stocked products? The Kangaroos at Sunset I felt was (relatively) reasonably priced and the Battle for Britain coins before that a good chance to get a few Royal Mint products (despite the mix up with silver v.s. basemetal coins). But, it seems the RCM is getting a just little trigger happy lately with selling non-RCM coins.

canadian_coins: The $200 savings was AFTER the $80 shipping fees. My total came to 1040 NZD which works out to 855 CAD.

I don't doubt that these are cheaper directly from the NZ mint but has anyone actually had experience receiving a $1000 shipment to Canada from New Zealand? I'm curious as to what was charged for taxes, import fees and brokerage fees on delivery.
These are 999 silver so normally would be tax exempt here but CRA have tendencies to change the rules on imports. And if these were shipped via UPS, all bets are off. Their inflated brokerage fees often eat away any foreign purchase savings. And let's not forget the credit card companies/banks who like to hide a 2-3% fee on F/X transactions to their unfavourable exchange rates.

I got them through Fedex (I received them this Monday). No Fedex fees/duties. I did have to pay the 2.5% fee for foreign exchange on the Credit card.

Interesting...but I am getting sick of so many colored commemoratives, just to make a secondary buck for the mint. Just my opinion.
