Hello everybody, I am new here so I apologize for any newbie mistakes ahead of time. As gimmicky as this Ladybug coin is, it sold out at the mint within a day and there is currently a $200 bid placed for it on ebay. That kind of bid makes me glad my wife talked me into buying it.

Hi everyone, maybe I should have been more clear. Whether you find this coin tacky or not the point of this topic is the prediction. I think it would be fun to be able to predict when a coin might increase in value, and this one shows all the signs.
When it comes to NCLT I figure to each his own. you either like it or you don't. I feel that when you put money in to a coin you either find it attractive or maybe the design has a special meaning to you.
And if that coin increases in value, maybe doubles, then that is just icing on the cake and you feel that hundred dollars you just spent is justified.
anyway that's just my thoughts on the subject.

I think there is sometimes a "first of a kind" factor with NCLT. For some reason novelty clicks for the first coin.
Examples are the 2002 50c Golden Tulip, 2004 $5 Moose, and the 2007 $4 Parasaurolophus. The Moose is an extreme example. It is the biggest mintage of the series (over double the lowest) and yet is valued 4x the other coins in the series.

The RCM called today to notify me that my Web order for 10 silver ladybug/tulip had to be scaled down to 3 as they had made a mistake when they posted the coin for sale on their web site (Master's Club). They had intended to set a limit of 3 but someone there goofed and they started selling the coin with no limit. Told them this was totally unacceptable. Asked the employee to talk to his Manager about this. He did and called me 10 minutes later to tell me that my order would be filled entirely. Was told that the coins would be shipped sometime in June. I was left with a bad feeling.

RCN,
The popularity has taken everyone by surprise and I'm sure many long time NCLT collectors just missed that one. (I almost did) Realizing the sell out they probably called in.... asked their reps to try to "find" one...
So with 10, you'll make a pretty decent profit. Nice.

I happened to be in the post-office picking up the mail and asked if they could get me one. It seemed to be a shot in the dark. Two days later, one of the postal workers said Oh by the way, we found that coin you asked about. My jaw hit the floor. I'll take it I said. I like postal workers.

I don't understand the purpose of the ladybug on the coin. Is it removable? How would you store such a coin with a protruding lump such as that? I understand the appeal to non-collectors, very gimmicky, but it begs the question now: "When is a coin not a coin any more." This coin crossed that threshold, I think.

The mint will make anything for a buck as long there are people who think different=unique=valuable
