1985 Doubled Die Obverse / DDO A Different Die Variety?

Double Mint Pillar of the Community United States 810 Posts	Posted 05/09/2011 5:38 pm Theres contact marks on this coin I know. But what I'm pointing out was not affected by a contact mark to appear that way. There is a contact mark on the top of the 8 in the middle but the outsdie top of eight was not caused by a contact mark. The bottom outside of the 8 was not contacted at all and its fatter on the outside. On the bottom of the 5 on the tail there is a split. Report this Post to the Staff
Double Mint Pillar of the Community United States 810 Posts	Posted 05/09/2011 11:00 pm I came to a conclusion after studying the coin better that this is not a double die. The only way this coin could be a double die if the tail of the nine was fat or splitting. So I guess in the long run if the tail isn't fat on the nine for this year it isn't a double die. I noticed on this year that the eight almost on all the 1985s I looked at are fatter on the bottom right of the number. Thats why I thought right away double die but I was wrong. The nine is what would give it away as a double die or not. Report this Post to the Staff
