I notice the rim denticles on gold dollars are usually quite weak.

Why is that?

I think it looks great. It may have been a jewelry piece.

Better pictures or an in hand inspection would be needed for a positive genuine opinion.

regarding gold coins better inspection in hand and using a digital scale would be better to determine if its genuine or not.

Have you considered how thin gold dollars are? there isn't a lot of metal there to strike up details.
