I seem to remember reading an article on extra thick Lincoln cents in the last couple of months, but can't remember where. Explanation; The US Mint does make other denomination of coins for foreign countries that do or did not have the facilities to make their own. Most of the lowest denomination coins throughout the world were struck on copper, or a alloy of copper and other metals and it was a simple mistake of one of the mint's operators taking what he or she thought was a
Lincoln Cent planchet and using them to make our one cent pieces when in fact it was a foreign planchet that they chose. Your best bet is to contact Alan Herbert, the guru of errors at answerman2@aol.com about this coin, he may have the answers to your questions.
