1969 D Lincoln Memorial Cent / LMC Die Break Or Lamination?

scurry64 Pillar of the Community United States 900 Posts	Posted 06/26/2011 1:23 pm Take a look at the last two pics. I'm not sure what happened to this coin. My first thought was that its is a die break. But the area inside the "crack" appears to be sticking up, as if it could be peeled off. I suppose it could be a lamination error, but the irregular shape throws me off. I've never seen a lamination in the form of, more or less, a circle. Of course, I haven't seen everything there is to see, so, it could be a lamination error. What do you think happened here? Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 06/26/2011 1:39 pm Looks a little bit like the old fashion scotch tape? Can it be peeled? Don't try too hard if it metal over the other devices. I can't image why a shape like that was struck onto the coin? Report this Post to the Staff
scurry64 Pillar of the Community United States 900 Posts	Posted 06/26/2011 1:51 pm Its definitely not scotch tape. I gave it an acetone bath and a gently rub with a Q-Tip. There is no indication that there is tape on the coin. I cannot peel it off with my finger nail. After the acetone bath, it appears more like a die crack, but I've never seen one like this before.
