Got three 10 oz bars of silver, last night. Two of them are NTR bars in plastic and the third is an Englehard w/o plastic. Paid $41/oz. through craigslist, which was my first transaction through craigslist and I have to say, it went very smoothly.
After looking at the two different bars, I've decided, I really like the Englehard bar.
The Englehard is about the size as a small bar of soup, kinda like those hotel soap bars. The 2 NTR bars are your typical flat bars, 2" by 3 1/2" by I dunno how thick. :P I wonder what everyone else likes about their silver bars.
Slowly building up my collection.
Wish I could show pics, but no camera and my main computer died, so doing to have to wait till I get a new computer, or a new phone, or something.

i wish I had a 10oz engelhard, I have several 100oz bars and just started buying 1oz. bars. they are my favorate along with JM  i have alot of NTR 10oz. and read that they are made from sterling silverware refined to .999 |

btw... you got a good deal on the engelhard, I see them sell for a minimum of $460

Silver is currently $39/oz and will now drop lower with the U.S debt deal in place and the American dollar soon rising. Ouch as it could be another 20 years before it sees $41 again.

Well Joe316, Everyone has their own opinions. And I still firmly believe silver has no way to go but up. I've been actually waiting for Sept. 8th to come around for the Long Beach Coin Convention, but I was worried silver would hit $50/oz by then, so I figured a few bars into my silver hoard shouldn't hurt.
I've been looking for JM bars, but usually a bit more expensive then I'd like to spend, but eventually, I'd like to get a few JM bars as well.

I didn't know the NTR bars were refined from sterling silver. Hopefully it doesn't cause the bars to have less value.
Btw, I've started collecting silver bullion 1 oz coins from varies mints, and now slowing getting into the 10 oz bars. I'm still learning but with all you guys to help, I'm sure I'll be quite knowledgeable by the end of my days. I really got started after reading about all the Roll Hunting threads and did a few boxes of basicly everything, but that was just to get my feet wet. Now it's all about pretty 1 oz rounds and random 10 oz bars. And no more stamp collecting or anything like that, anymore. Wish I had gotten into PMs as a kid...31 now. Better late then never, I guess.

Yes Joe all is fixed and hunky dory again eh? We will trim almost 8 billion in the years to come, which covers about two days as we add 4 billion more each day as democrat who voted against the plan pointed out today on the radio....
Stop and think about that TWO DAYS, and there is like 365 and one stinking quarter in a year....
97guns sporting several 100 oz bars, nice man I am lovin that stash....

Are you just here to rain on everyone's parade? Seems that way. Anyway, I happen to not agree with joe whatsoever. The econonmy is far from fixed and will likely only get worse. Ergo, the fundamentals for the price of silver to keep going up over the long term is still in place. Ouch, we could see $41+ silver sooner than later, and certainly not going to be 20 years from now as he thinks. |

I've never been too worried about what people are saying about silver going up or down. And regardless, I'm not actually collecting to be rich one day, I'm actually doing this more as a hobby to keep out of trouble and to be able to reinvest, when I feel the need to.
My goal is to have one of each year, of every silver bullion every made by a real mint. Like the Eagles, Pandas, Lunar sets, grizzles, and anything else I can get my hands on, for a decent price.
I did start off with 10 generic silver rounds, like Sun Shine Mint, Prospectors, and others similar to those. Of course, I was fairly new with all this PM and Numismatic stuff, so I totally left major finger prints ALL over them. At least I learned before ruining my Eagles or Pandas. LOL.

Prospectors are Engelhard and sought after by many. I would class them right above generic like the Sunshines....
Oil from those fingers does bad things, plastic cases highly recommended by me....
Funny, I will not splurge on some white gloves or some digi scales for less than 20, but will buy gold and silver as much as possible, lol....

Hopefully, in the near future, I'll be able to show everyone my silver hoard. Just have to get unlazy and research camera's in my spare time. I also have to research on some nice coin gloves, so I can replace my nice bullion pieces into an airtite w/o messing it up. My favorite piece is my Kangaroo at Sunset silver bullion. Some kinda privy thing that I don't quite understand, which I also haven't gotten around to researching. So much to do, so little spare time. Well, time to sleep, ghost you guys later. :)

Silver went over the $40 mark today. I can't say Joe is going to be right or wrong but so far Silver is what I would call strong. I can't tell you where it is heading though my gut tells me we have a lot more room in the upward climb.
I like bars though I don't have any at this point in time. For some reason I started with bullion coins and have not move away from them.
I think you did well enough on the price but that is just my opinion, you certainly could have paid more for AE's per once.

I think most collectors has a set prices on what one is worth and willingly paid for within that term.
Investors kept close watch at the market, and will bet for the margin prices will either go up or down, they have earn that dollar profit.
Collectors/Investors like myself, shops for bargains, check the bullion cost and see how many I can buy/sell. Then I hold on for a few years, sometimes longer to sell, but when is time to sell, it becomes hard to detach. LOL!
I agree that silver has a long road of climbing up hills, but in between you can buy at bargain prices.

Silver is over $40 this morning. $41 is one headline away. If you compare the last month's move in silver it is the envy of most equity investors.
