I have this beautiful coin for a while now, and it's the key date in the 20 Rappen Series from Switzerland. I was wondering what grade it would be, and also why is the B the way it is? Is it an error or damage?
I have put a picture with a normal B as well, for visual compperancement

1927B: Mintage 500,000 - 1.00(F) 2.50(VF) 12.00(XF) 110(UNC) 225(BU)

All grading opinions as well as information is highly appreciated

I would say VF+ IMO. There is a lot of wear on the hair and the beads above the "IB" in liberty. Still a nice find . Not sure about the mintmark though.

VF... The only thing I can think of that would do that to the mintmark is vending machines, or gambling machines...

Regarding the damaged mint mark with the close-up comparison photo, the denticles appear a little irregular.

If it is a key date and therefore valuable, I would first want to be satisfied it was genuine, and then wonder about its grade.

I'm not sure it matters in this case whether its genuine or not. It still is only a VF. So either yo have a genuine VF or a counterfeit VF Swiss 20 rappen. Being a "key" date, the cv is low in the lesser grades.

Swiss coins are usually very well-struck, which would make counterfeiting difficult, and probably not cost-effective for a modest premium for this date. I am familiar with modern Swiss 20 Rp, and I see nothing that looks wrong here. As for the damage on reverse, it's also along the whole outer edge of the wreath. It looks like damage done by a coin counter machine, and would probably affect overall grade. I would say aVF.

That coin looks to be choice vf to me. As for the mint mark, just looks like it got pinched or something, its a fake just has a little damage

Why would anyone fake a Swiss 20 rappen coin in VF?

No way it's a fake, it's a key date for sure, and will always be worth well in excess of it's nominal value (despite the strong Franc these days!). Good find no matter how you slice it.

I say the Bern B took post-mint damage there. Not unusual.

hmm interesting comments, so thanks all of you.!
I don´t think that it is a fake as well, and it appears indeed that the damage in the wreath is from a vendingmachine of some sort... That´s too bad, since it affects the value. As far as the B, it looks a bit strange, probably also due to the vending machine effect

It's still a nice coin, and indeed a key date, probably worth just a few dollars in VF+.

Again thanks for comments, and I will post some other old Swiss coins soon
