John37941 Sorry to say the coin shown is not genuine - typical numismatic forgery. The edge of the coin outside the perimeter detail is incorrect and the beading appears to be irregular. SG will be near 9.5 not 10.3 even if the weight is correct.

Just as a hunch, does it look like the province name Hu-Peh in English does not match the province name Hu-Nan in Chinese on the other side?

Ok thanks. Might it still be silver? If so, how would I find out?

The people who make these rarely if ever make them out of silver, especially these "mules" - as Albert says, the province named in English on the reverse is not the same as the province named in Chinese on the obverse.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Many fakes of old Chinese Dragon Dollars are made nowadays and mis-matched sides made out of non-silver are common. Most may be about 20% low weight (bingo!). But if not low weight, then other tests will reveal if they are silver or not.

I would want to be paid to dispose it. I don't know what metal is in it. Toxic, heavy metal?

Hi all, I've been meaning to look into these coins I got in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia last year at the side of a road where a trader was selling various rocks and things that appeared to have been found in the desert. They were really black when I got them but cleaned them up once back home. Both are 37 grms in weight and neither are magnetic. I'm curious since I got them - regardless of fake or genuine I love them as it was a great treasure to remind us of a fantastically special place.

Doesn't look good Bullion, characters and details seem too thick and bulbous.
Anyone else want to chime in ?

Both are fake but the OP doesn't seem to care. More wrong besides the character thickness.
