Quick opinion poll among my fellow coiners.

Q: Do you think the 1998-S Matte Kennedy half is worth the money as an investment coin or is it just a fad coin?

Do you have it as part of the set, with the Robert Kennedy coin?

I got one with the Robert Kennedy dollar just to complete my silver Kennedy half set. It doesn't have that deep mirrored proof look that a typical proof coin has it looks more like just a BU.

I do not have the SMS set at this time. I was looking at purchasing the half by itself. The particular one I have found is graded SP70.

This coin has no appeal for me; I just don't get excited about the different finishes. I compared the prices quoted in the Coin Values price guides from March and September, 2011 and noticed the 1998-S matte proof dropped from $285 to $250. During the same 6 months the regular 1998-S silver proof went up from $11 to $25.

I would not purchase this one unless it was cheap and could be flipped for a profit.

Others may disagree!

Here is my example of the 1998 s Matte finish half. The appeal is that this is the lowest mintage Kennedy half.

How about the set? I would think there might be a premium in having the complete set, as issued?

The set is ok, didn't get too excited when I received mine in the mail this year. But my Kennedy set is update.
