I suspect the $229.99 price is just a placeholder price. Figuring the bullion coin at melt of $32, that averages $49.50 for each of the two burnished uncirculated coins and the same for the two proofs. I'm betting absolute lowest possible price of $279.99

I too think that that price is a goof, copied from the ATB entry. With two unique coins, one of which is a reverse proof (they are more expensive to make), I don't see it as being that low. With their current prices for the proof & unc, two proofs and 3 uncs add up to $271. I just don't think they would undercut the single coin pricing but they might! If that price holds and they stick with 100,000 sets it has a strong chance of being a long term bonanza.

Where did $229.95 come from? At the site it still says price TBD.

If you go to the mint main page then click on Product Schedule at the top, there is a Product Availability link just above the On Sale button. From that page click on Product index, then go to page two and it is the fifth item from the top. This is where the $229.95 price is stated. This links to the actual product page which still says to be determined. The direct link to page two is:

Did you also notice that the product page with the ordering limits did NOT mention mintage limits?

Maybe that's why the price is lower than anticipated...

Check out this sell on ebay. He/she is preselling 5 sets, but look in the lower description....what is he meaning by "sending the five sealed sets in another box so that they can be certified first strike / early release" ?
How can the be a sure thing with a pre order?

The problem is I want the set and so does everyone else. It appears there will be no shortage of sets thus not making it a rare collectable. So the price and value will have to be my strongest decision in buying the set. I don't think it is a item under these conditions that I will be willing to pay out a large premium on.

$229 is certainly an appealing price. I think that even though there are 100,000 sets, it will still be a very desirable product to own. Every collector I've ever met likes these coins, so I don't see why they all wouldn't want to own them.

I think if you read between the lines, the seller is saying that he's sending you the sealed box from the mint, inside a larger box. Meaning thereby that you will receive a mint-sealed box to send to the graders yourself if you want to.

The price seems right in line with the 5 ounce silver ATB coins they are releasing.

Do you really believe he will send the box from the mint with his Receipt inside it. or will he open it and remove his paper work.

A sealed box means exactly that, sealed with the order receipt inside with a shipping label from PBGS in Plainfield, IN. Not so much for 'first strike' designations, per se, but for a better chance of MS70, PR70, etc. as the TPG would know for certain the coins weren't tampered with or handled after leaving the distribution center of the US Mint.

The main reason for the sealed box in this case is so the three non unique coins can be labeled as coming from the 25th anniversary set. The sealed box prevents sending in ringers (known MS/PR70s). However silly it might be, there are people willing to pay extra for a coin with a special label even though there is nothing special about the coin. Of course, if you send five sets in for grading and slabbing with anniversary labels, you have a pretty good chance of being able to put one or two MS/PR70 sets together and those should demand huge premiums in the secondary market. The two unique coins will have value no matter what, slabbed or not, labeled or not. First strike or early release labels will not make any sense for this set as it is almost certain to sell out in a time that qualifies all sets for the designation, but that might not prevent TPGs from taking money for such labeling.

Yep ! ....

You can have a "First Strike" coin in the middle of the year, or even towards the end of the year !
And just getting an order in "early" does NOT mean that it was an "early" or "first" strike......It could still have been struck towards the end of the process before planchets/dies are changed, which happens constantly throughout the year.
They only mint so many....then stop.... change the equipment....then start minting again.......then stop again.....change the equipment again.....then start minting again.
All through the whole 100,000 coins, in this case.
And similarly in all the other coin denominations as well.
With Proof coins, it's just done A LOT more often, with only a few minted, then they change out the equipment.
This keeps the strike quality superb.

"First Strike" is joke that I will not only ignore, I would suggest that no one ever pay extra money for the designation.
Only pay for "strike quality" and "perfection".

Wow, really getting excited about this release. Definitely in for two if the web site cooperates. Must be patient...11 days until I can order... and December before it's in my hot little hands? Oy!
