I just checked the status of my order and it now says Nov. 20. Does anybody know if the shipping date could change back to an earlier date or is Nov. 20 the earliest as of today? TIA

Don't get all caught up in the date. It is set at today+14 and has been since your order and it will increment automatically every day. It is not a real estimate of shipping. This number is used routinely by the mint/PBGS on out of stock or high demand items. It is still possible that these sets are not in stock or at least not in enough quantity to begin mass shipments. That two week time will suddenly evaporate once shipments begin. It may however, take well more than a week to get all orders shipped, even if that is the only product they are shipping at the time.

This is my first time purchasing anything from the mint. My order has gone from "on hold" to "in process". Does that mean there is a chance that the mint actually has a set reserved for me? I ask this because the order for my set was not placed until 8:19 PM eastern. My order number is 384050XXX

I tried to order a set through the website from 12 until 5 when I heard the set was sold out. I came back a few hours later and placed and order for one on the off chance that the mint did something crazy like increase the mintage or something. I really wasn't expecting to get a set from the mint, and still am doubting that it might come true.

While it won't hurt anything to call, since no orders have progressed to "in stock and reserved" and it should take many days to get through shipping all valid orders after that happens, there is probably no reason to call. It won't do any harm to check and make sure that there isn't anything wrong with your order.
An order changing to in process is no guarantee that a set is reserved. The thing you want to look for is the item status changing from the two week until shipment thingy to "in stock and reserved". That wording does mean that your order has been sent to fulfillment and barring trouble charging your CC, your order should ship.

I too live on the East coast, and started my adventure of the computer and phone at about 12:15 and after about an hour of nothing but a constant busy signal and not connecting to the Mint's site I gave up for a few hours and retried at about 4:30 ish and with-in 20 min's I was able to get through. I am not sure I will even receive a set.

I am not sure the East coast was as easy as some propose............Good luck to All.

I'm also on the east coast and went through twice in a span of 45 minutes. I suspect the sites servers couldn't handle the number of people. My guest is the east coast, with many major cities only a small hours away from each other, had relatively more servers and people there experienced less congestion. At least initially, at best it might have been a head start, after a while connecting to the site even in the east coast seemed impossible. Still evidence is only anecdotal. Did anyone not on the east coast have an easy time.

Expected to ship...21 Nov 2011.

...and the ebay listings are back too! Perhaps someone will send ebay the link to this thread, where the listings are posted under the opening post? I would do it, but ebay is banned from work.

I saw one of the sellers on ebay that had clearly posted in violation of the policy after being told not to. In the listing it said that you should hurry and get his/her set before ebay took the listing down. Talk about the definition of a flipper, I think that might be it. I don't think that there is any way I would buy from a seller that was admitting to deliberately violating ebay policy.
The ship date incremented right after midnight Eastern Time this morning, a totally automatic thing, in no way related to any actual estimate of this set's shipment. Once the first orders start changing to "in stock and reserved" things should happen fairly fast but it could still take well over a week to get them all out.

There are so many variables when it comes to something as complicated as the Internet. There are literally hundreds of devices working (in concert) to make your order happen. Just off the top of my head (and greatly simplified), I had a laptop connecting to a wireless network through a wireless access point. The Access Point sent my request through the Wireless LAN controller to the firewall to the Core Switch to the Internet Router to the ISP's complex of routers and switches, where it got handed off somehow to the Mint's ISP's routers and switches and then to the Mint's web servers. There are also factors like the VPN I was on, compression, encryption, congestion on my ISP, available bandwidth, QoS, etc., etc., ad nauseum. Not to mention the (tens of?) thousands of people trying to place an order simultaneously on an antiquated ordering system.

A choke point in any one of those pieces will adversely affect the speed of an order. Savvy folks can identify some of these points and eliminate them from the equation, but without being on a computer at the Mint, you can't eliminate them all. I think folks on the East coast probably did have an easier time of it in general. I was in Colorado at the time and it took me a couple hours of trying (lots of refreshing). Fortunately I was on a conference call :)

Fortunately I was able to nab 3. Unfortunately they are going to be in one shipment, so that kind of eliminates grading unless I can get them to separate into 2 or 3 shipments. If not I'd be willing to sell one to any CCF member who did not get an order in (though I think I have to make a few more posts before I can do that).

I am on the East Coast and surprisingly it took 15 min. to get an order in using Comcast Cable, only ordered 1 "All I could afford" I feel bad the CCF members who could not get through, I thought about offering to try to order another one for someone, but did not have enough $$ to do so, and probably would not be kosher to make that offer, but I am glad to see someone who is getting more than one set offer to sell to a CCF member....

I thought about buying this set. Attempted to access the US Mint site from the UK while at work and it was performing worst then it did for the Lincoln Chronicles set.

So congrats to all of you that were able to access the site and place an order.

I do think the set is very nice but to me the Lincoln Chronicles is more special.

Orders are starting to change to "in stock and reserved". All five of my sets have changed but still have the cancel button and there has not been any credit card activity yet. As long as the cancel button is available the order has probably not been picked up by fulfillment yet (may have been sent to them, just not being processed quite yet). But, this is sooner than I expected and this could mean that the first orders will ship this week.
