I suspect that with a modernized ordering system the whole thing would have gone much, much smoother...
and the entire run of 100,000 sets would have been sold out within the first 30 minutes or so.

A five-per-order limit on a high-demand item exacerbates the problem.
The 2009 Lincoln C&C Set (50,000) was limited to one per order,
and it took 30 hours for it to (officially) sell out.

The 2011 ASE Set should have been limited to two per household.
I admit it's hypocritical of me to say that ,
but if I had to sit at a computer for over an hour to
get them in the first place, why not get five?

Having second thoughts on the putting these back on ebay after getting them in hand, or waiting for a spell.

DNA describes my situation exactly. I was only planning on ordering 3, but when I finally got them on the phone after 2 1/2 hours of trying, I decided I might as well order 5.

Heh, I was only going to order one set to start with, but if the mint was going to let me have five, well then I'll get five! With such low mintage, it was not hard to see the opportunity in this set.

If this Set had been 250,000 mintage (like the 2006 Set),
I probably would have ordered three of them.

500,000 mintage - I would have ordered two Sets.

When it comes to limited editions where demand outstrips supply, there will always be those left out. Even when the mint gets a better system people will complain that they didn't get theirs because "the darn Mint's system sucks". Lets all face it....the mint could change policy to everything being one per household and they could litterally read your mind the moment you thought you wanted one and people would still miss out. There simply is no solution to everyone getting a limited edition, plain and simple. If supply was greater than demand the term "limited" really looses it's meaning.

I am not bragging or anything but it boggles the mind that most had to try for hours by phone and internet and then there are others like myself that took 10 minutes. Heck I was EXPECTING a long ordeal after what I had read on here about the Lincoln and UHR fiasco's. I do hope that those on here that are going to be selling any extra's throw's a bone to those that did not get one. I only ordered one as I knew others would want a set and I just did not feel right denying 4 other people the opportunity. But, I probably just left 4 more for one person to get but I guess one can hope right?

There are so many variables when it comes to something as complicated as the Internet. There are literally hundreds of devices working (in concert) to make your order happen. Just off the top of my head (and greatly simplified), I had a laptop connecting to a wireless network through a wireless access point. The Access Point sent my request through the Wireless LAN controller to the firewall to the Core Switch to the Internet Router to the ISP's complex of routers and switches, where it got handed off somehow to the Mint's ISP's routers and switches and then to the Mint's web servers. There are also factors like the VPN I was on, compression, encryption, congestion on my ISP, available bandwidth, QoS, etc., etc., ad nauseum. Not to mention the (tens of?) thousands of people trying to place an order simultaneously on an antiquated ordering system.

A choke point in any one of those pieces will adversely affect the speed of an order. Savvy folks can identify some of these points and eliminate them from the equation, but without being on a computer at the Mint, you can't eliminate them all. I think folks on the East coast probably did have an easier time of it in general. I was in Colorado at the time and it took me a couple hours of trying (lots of refreshing). Fortunately I was on a conference call :)

Fortunately I was able to nab 3. Unfortunately they are going to be in one shipment, so that kind of eliminates grading unless I can get them to separate into 2 or 3 shipments. If not I'd be willing to sell one to any CCF member who did not get an order in (though I think I have to make a few more posts before I can do that).

Maybe you're right about that East Coast advantage, is it beacaue we're physically closer? I logged on a few mins before Noon, and had to try a couple times, seemed like it wasn't going anywhere, but then went thru, and I received a confirmation email at 12:07. I only ordered one set, a xmas present for my collector son, and I had a credit card account all set up with the mint, so I was able to use the One Click otion, and maybe that helped.
