I am writing to share a change in objectives for this set ...

One of the highlights for me of the ANA show is Philly was viewing the numismatic educational exhibits that were on display there ...and that experience motivated me to find someway in my pursuit of the hobby to share something from my collection in a future educational display.

My thoughts naturally leaned towards my dual MS/Circulated classic silver commemorative sets ... and I suppose there would be minimal interest in my MS set such as it is ... nice to me ... but certainly not anything special in the big picture.

To that end I am going to focus on my growing circulated set as a way to establish an educational exhibit.

At this point in time I have not formulated any views on how the exhibit would look ... but I have time to plan all that out as I continue to search for the coins to fill it.

As such I sent a few coins off to PCGS for their views on the 'official' grade ... not sure yet if I'll keep them in the PCGS holders, or place them back in the Dansco 7094 ... I am sort of treading water on that decision for now.

The PCGS experience was both good and bad ...

My Cincinnati was graded VF-Details. I had it pegged at an honest VF30.

My Hawaiian was graded F-Details. I had it pegged at an honest F12.

The other 5 coins I submitted came back within a few points of 'my grades' ... good for that.

Sooooo ... bottom line .... I am changing the objectives for this set to be able to someday put together an educational display of the complete 50-coins in honestly (and certifiable) condition.

I have updated my slideshow ... now showing 6 holes to go ...

And I have updated my Want List ... with continued appreciation for the continued support many of you have so kindly offered.

If you have a graded circ set to go along with you graded MS set you will have something that very few will attempt. You can still have a Dansco set with the ones that don't fit into the graded set. I still like your side by side comparisons.

Pleased to share a photo of my newest downgrade ... VF20 (my grade) 1936 Philly mint Rhode Island. Replaces my previous XF45 example.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

PCGS has certified 8 total Rhode Island below AU ... and 3 coins lower than this one.

My circulated commemorative photo slideshow is current for anyone who might enjoy viewing the set:

Truly enjoying the hunt for these great coins in honest circulated condition ... someday they will be an ANA show display.

Enjoy

David

Very nice Rhode Island -- nice even wear across the surfaces on both sides. A great addition to your set!

Enjoyed the slide show, great to see the wear patterns on each of the coins -- nothing theoretical about how these coins wear with your set!

Best of luck with the ongoing hunt!

Pleased to share this downgrade ... VF20 Long Island (my grade) as it replaces my XF45 example.

Thrilled that my XF45 is now in the hands of a growing collector who is rapidly gaining knowledge and appreciation for the series.

Photo ... VF20 Long Island ... tough circ coin with 5 total certified below AU and 2 lower than this lovely example:

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

No updates on the slideshow ... I'm a bit tired from all weekend at work and back at it tomorrow at 6am.

Many Thanks for all your support in this long collecting journey for which I have embarked.

Enjoy

This is another tough one to find in that low of a circ condition. You will find a lot of Long Islands in lightly circ but not like this one.

A few updates on my circulated commemorative quest ...

I'm heading towards my goal of having a PCGS certified circulated type set suitable for a numismatic education display ... currently have 34 of the 50 coins in PCGS graded holders.

A few new (raw) coins for the set ...

1920 Maine

I grade AG03 ... a downgrade for me. Easy to find in the marketplace in circulated condition ... and this well circulated example is typical of what can be found.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

1935 Boone

I grade VF30/VF35 ... very difficult type coin to find in this circulated grade. PCGS has certified 3 total Boone VF or lower across the entire 16-coin date/mm/variety sub-series.

Hoping this example becomes the 4th certified at that level ...

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

1937 Antietam

Thrilled to finally find an honest circulated example of this lovely coin. It completes my personal trifecta of US Civil War MS-Circ examples (Gettysburg, Antietam and Stone Mountain).

I grade VF30/VF35.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

Trust that I am having a blast chasing this circulated set ... a collection that I personally consider the most difficult US 20th century type set to assemble.

My CCF Want List is current in case you folks come across any of these lovely coins ...

Enjoy
