You did well on all 3. Like you said the circ Antietam is one that you just don't see. If you get the same grader that looked at your Long Island the Maine may be a FR02.

Congrats on the latest acquisitions! "Lovely" examples of each coin! I certainly hope I get the opportunity to view your planned exhibit some day.

The Boone looks better than VF to my eye, but you're the master of grading these so I'm sure I'm just "seeing things"!

Writing to share a few additions to the set ...

1936 Columbia Sesquicentennial Half Dollar

Net distribution of 9,007 examples. Like all of the 1934 - 1939 'commemorative craze' coins very difficult to find in circulated condition.

This example is PCGS XF40 ... one of only three examples (all mints) certified below AU by PCGS.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

1926 Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar

Despite the collector abuse inherent behind the marketing of this 14 coin date/mm series ... I still hold this design as the finest in the classic silver commemorative series.

A collecting fantasy would be a complete date/mm set in both MS and circulated condition.

PCGS VG08. A nice downgrade from my 1926-S PCGS F12.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

1937-D Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar

Did someone mention a collecting fantasy? This coin is raw ( ebay find). I grade XF40/XF45.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

1928 Hawaiian Sesquicentennial Half Dollar

The king of the classic series. One of only three type coins in the series with 10,000 coin net distribution. PCGS has certified 9 examples below AU.

I have an honestly circulated example that PCGS returned as F-Details Tooled.

Picked up this PCGS XF45 Hawaiian recently ...

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

I'm truly enjoying the collecting challenge of pursuing these coins in honestly circulated condition ... marveling at their beauty after time in service of our nations' commerce.

Enjoy

David

Beautiful additions!
Good luck to you with the Oregon trail set! I've fallen hard for the Oregon trail commemorative.

Once again, great additions to your set! As I mentioned in one of the other threads, having the opportunity to view these lower-grade circulated coins vs. the more common mint state examples is something that I've thoroughly enjoyed.

Keep 'em coming!

Wow ... apologize for the 2 month delay between updates on this quest ... hoping you understand that too much time at work coupled with health concerns for my aging father have put a serious crimp in my collecting and CCF time.

I'll begin this update with the status of my efforts to get the 50 coin circulated type set in problem-free PCGS holders ... bad news there.

The PCGS wizards have judged my Antietam to be VF Details- Cleaned, my Huguenot as AG Details- Cleaned and my Robinson, York, Alabama, Bay Bridge, Iowa and New Rochelle in a similar light.

I do not agree with them ... but have accepted their collective judgement.

No worries ... I now have 40 of the 50 in problem free PCGS holders and am already picturing the layout of my someday numismatic exhibit on circulated classic silver commemorative.

I do have three additions to share ...

1893 Isabella Quarter

Heritage FUN auction January 2013. PCGS AG03 ... ties for the lowest ever certified by PCGS. Truly enjoy the uniform wear and color.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

1926 Sesquicentennial Half

Could not resist this honestly worn raw example which I grade as AG03. Would be a downgrade from my PCGS VG10 example ... if I can get it past the wizards.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

1924 Huguenot-Walloon Half

I grade this raw coin as VG10 ... replacement for my AG details cleaned example.

Update-#4---Completed-Circulated-Classic-Silver-Commemorative-Type-Set

Know that I remain fully committed to assembling this set for as long as it take to find these treasured and challenging coins in the marketplace.

The very essence of collecting is IMHO establishing honest goals for yourself and pursuing your passion with patience and dedication ... such is my personal quest for a complete type set of honestly circulated classic silver commemorative.

I will be very proud someday when this thread ends with a photo of my set on display at an ANA show ... however long that takes.

I know the 'collectors' out there understand.

Best

David

Sorry to hear about the differences of opinion between you and PCGS â€" too bad they get the last word (at least most of the time!). Thinking positively, it just means that you get another chance to enjoy the hunt for the coins you need to replace!

Nice additions! I like the overall effect the wear created on the Isabella Quarter â€" an almost "ghost-like" appearance.

Look forward to following your progress! I hope your future ANA exhibit will be mounted at a show I can attend. I'm sure it will be a terrific display and would very much enjoy having the chance to view it!

Nice additions David, with the really fine examples of circulated classic I fine it disappointing to have PCGS return them as "details".

David, nice to have you back!
Thoughts are with you and the family.

The Isabella is one of my new favorites in your set. Great addition.

Too bad about your PCGS results. I would resubmit the Anteitam... I don't see that as being cleaned.

Wow! Everytime I see an Isabella that has honest wear I think of you and Hondo - looks like you really scored there. Glad to see your collection is still rolling forward.

Thanks for sharing!
