Exactly. Who knows if they talk just to hype it all up. Talk causes different people to do different things. Some may buy thinking PMs will be out of reach. Some will sell and take the gain. Many that are just holding on to PMs for security most likely will just keep them unless they want to exchange for a tangible asset not cash

I'm in a holding pattern right now, exception being the 25th ASE set.

Quote: Whenever I see goldbugs and people like GATA complain about market manipulation to keep prices DOWN, I can't help but read headlines like these and look at the charts showing the parabolic rise in prices for Gold and Silver; and think "yep, there sure is market manipulation". As a student of human nature, I am convinced that people will manipulate anything and everything to their advantage that they can. Consider that history is filled with many examples of skulduggery in long gone years. Does anyone think that people have given up on that? No, of course not. In anything, they are simply MUCH better at it today than they were back then. As to market manipulation of PMs, this is VERY possible with the small silver market but much less so with the large gold market.

Quote: A $100 bill from 1960 is still worth $100 today but $100 doesn't buy today nearly what it did back in 1960. 100 US silver dollars from 1960, however, are now worth around $2500 in paper dollars. Then it's not "still worth $100" today. More like $4 from your example.

Biggfredd; along those same lines, I'd like to share this with you.
My mother worked in a bank for years. In fact, her vault deposit box was so old, it was in the single digits. During a recent visit, she asked me to accompany her to the bank. "You collect coins," she said to me. "I want you to see if these have any value." She pulled out her box, which had not been opened in more than twenty years, and inside she had row upon row of large thick coins. She had been buying American Eagles "for the grandkids" on each of her grandchildren's birthdays for the past thirty years and putting them in her safe deposit box. The box was so heavy, I could barely lift it. Each coin was in mint condition, pure silver. "Are they worth anything?" she asked. "How much did you pay?" I asked in return. "Oh, I don't know... at the most, eight bucks apiece, I think." A dollar is not just a dollar when it comes to silver. Nor is a coin just a coin to a collector. "Did I do alright, you think?" she asked. I tried to reassure my mother that she did well for her grandkids. I hugged her eighty-eight year old body. "You did well, mom. You did well."

Mom did well. Most such stories are boxes of red seals, silver certificates and Barr notes.

Well, as I said, I bought some BU and proof silver coins a week or so ago when silver briefly dipped down to $30/oz., and I was hoping to buy some more this week if silver dipped again. At the moment, though, silver seems to be on the rise. That's OK, though -- I'm going to a coin show this weekend and plan to bring some "junk" silver coins to trade, so it will actually work out fine if silver continues to go up until then.

Funny thing about kids is that about 80% of what they cost you comes during the last 20% of the time before they fly the coop. Prior to that time the costs are pretty much incremental... at least, it was that way for us.
