parkay Valued Member Canada 287 Posts	Posted 11/18/2013 10:28 pm What kind of coating does the mint put on coins in proof sets? I was taking a picture of a proof twoonie and when I went to put it in the holder I noticed some lint on the coin. I went to gently blow on it to clean lint off and had a little too wet a breath and got a spot on the coin. I thought I would be smart and dab the spot with acetone to take the moisture off and the spot went very streaky. I ended up having to repeatedly dab the whole surface to get the film off. Liverpool Pillar of the Community Canada 576 Posts	Posted 11/19/2013 8:02 pm I feel I need to say more on this subject, this is just my personal choice or standard but I would never buy a coin that has had the case opened. T me it is automatically damaged goods. There have been many times I've by passed a coin on the bay just because the picture shows it as opened. If I ever came into the possession of such a coin and chose to sell it I feel I'd have to declare the problem just as I would if I were selling a car that was in an accident. I buy proof and specimen sets every year and take them out of the package and put them in 2 x 2 Quadrum holders then put them in binder sheets and have binders for the different denominations.
