Cowboy, have you weighed it? Mntg. of these are more like 4 million. At any rate, just the pic makes my
scalp tingle. Nice!

Unless you have a very comfortable feeling on the providence of that coin I would be very concerned about its authenticity. That is not a coin that you find at a swap meet or stumble upon in an ebay listing. It is a very commonly counterfeited coin. I am not an expert on these coins but that coin if real is worthy of a top tier grading and slabbing. Personally the coin does not look right to me.

I am comfortable that it is real. My Grandfather purchaced it in 1989 and had it certified by ANACS. I have the number. But They didnt do slabbing then. I intend to have it slabbed. The picture does not do it justice.

I called ANACS and gave them the Number since they graded/certified this coin in 1989 only to be told they don't keep old numbers on file that long and would consider any old grading as not valid......
So I guess that means if I have any coins graded and put them away for 30-40 years I shouldn't expect the grading to be valid.

The peso saw dramatic devaluation in 1949 so this date was not released. However 200-500 "escaped." I remember reading that at least some were minted in Denver.

A common diagnostic is in the second 9 of the date. I do not see the diagnostic in this coin, in fact the second 9 looks screwy. A close up pic. would help.

The 1949 1P is the most couterfeited modern Mexican coin. Mine is ANACS unc details cleaned (hairlines), but I still had Ponterio's double check it.

I have had some people look at this coin today and judged it real....very real.... and have sent it off for Grading. In 2 or 3 weeks should know the answer on this one.

Finaly got my coin back from NGC. Graded about where I thought it would. At least I know it is authentic.

Nice to have it in a slab from a top tier TPG. Quite a nice coin for any Mexican coin collection. I am glad you had it certified.

Nicely done! You have it locked in. I dont see the 1949s doing anything but increasing in value.
