Hi all... Normally spend time on the variety side of the forum although I do love to attribute the ancients! I came across this a month or so ago and I am still hitting a dead end... anyone familiar with this one? Some of us were thinking Kushan Empire but can't seem to find a match anywhere... Thanks for looking!

Fig leaf huh... never thought of that one, thanks, at least that is another avenue... this coin is just one of those that has no explanation, I have several of them... If I find something I will let you know! Thanks!

I would post this one to the identification forum.
There are a few collectors here who know a lot about older India coins--if that's where it's from.

No need to re-post it - I've just moved this thread to ID Required.

I'm pretty sure it's not technically "ancient" (pre-500 AD). But I've no idea what it is. It doesn't really look "Indian", either.

I don't know if it'll help, but what's the size and weight?
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Thanks for the move... Duh me for not getting the size and weight! It is back in the shop so I can do that on Friday! It is about the size of a SBA and almost as thick (if I remember correctly) and looks like solid copper...

My first impression was it that it was a Afghani / Iranian civic copper coin from the 17th / 18th century - but not one that I've seen before.

Woah, not even our best identifiers have a clue of what it is. I'm going with Bacchus2 saying it's from the 1600's Middle East or India. This is a mystery.....we need Scooby and his crew.

I put a request in for Mystery Inc. so hopefully Scooby-Doo and company can help! I will measure and get the weight it on fridayto see if that helps... other than that I will keep on searching! Thanks for all the input!

Not a Problem Apollo... When I attribute the ancient coins, people stand there like I am going to tell them everything about the coin by just looking at it. Then I hand them a book and say you try, they are quite understanding at that point, lol... Some times, like this because it is different, it is all about the thrill of the hunt!
