I agree with Earle, special really doesn't mean that anymore. Variety is fine but I think for serious collectors it will change the way we collect. There comes a point where its just to much to keep up with and may start turning things into type sets. For example if theres 15 different ASEs every year saying 1 of each type is enough as opposed to trying to get all the different ones with all the mint marks.
Thats why I wish for this set at least they would occassionally put out something with a real low minatge to really give that special product that you have to hunt for like with old coins, but it seems all the moderns are basically well put out as many as we can possibly try to sell

Complaints about availability of that set is probably the reason for the "mint to demand" for this set. It seems like the Mint can't make a low mintage in demand product unless EVERYONE can get all they want or there will be an uproar...does not compute If the Mint had stated upfront that the maximum mintage of this set was 200k it would have sold out in a week (or less)...

Fox yes exactly like that. All the outcry about not getting that set was way over blown or people complaining to complain aside from the website errors. If that were true and people did really want mint to demand slaes on this would be double if not triple what they are at least.
But people don't want mint to demand. I agree 200 300k mintage and this set sells out fast. Mint to demand cheapens it and makes it nothing special at all. At the end of the day this set is really just two over priced proofs.
If you don't limit it no one really wants it. I would rather niss out on a special limited set knowing its out there then see this type of set repeated

200K still a reasonable guesstimate for total sales? 166,836* Total Units Ordered (28 Jun 2012) *Data for cumulative total units ordered is updated daily, Monday through Friday, at approximately 3 p.m. (ET) and is an approximation of total units ordered from the United States Mint through all of its active sales channels. This data is provided for informational purposes only and should not be construed to represent accepted orders or actual sales figures. http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...tegory=10191

Yeah, it'll be tough to break 200k. I'm surprised the mintage hasn't broken 200k yet. There are over 456k 2012 Proof ASEs that have been sold so far. I'm surprised the S one is so low then. You'd think more buyers of proof ASEs would buy the S one. http://www.numismaticnews.net/artic...gs-new-coins

Yes, it took a big jump today. It will probably break 200k on Monday.

It is payday...for some people. Just a thought...the ASE's are made to order, we all got that. How many cases did they have made?

I'm a little confused... When is the mint going to take my money? I kinda want to know because I do have to budget the rest of my life! Doesn't look like they took payment but my order says to ship on 7/27...

The mint will charge your credit card when they are getting ready to ship. Their FAQs say that they charge when an item ships but sometimes they are a day or two early or late. For most items like this one, with a lot of orders to process at one time, they will usually charge your CC shortly after the item status on the track order page changes to "in stock and reserved". And, in fact, it is at that point that the mint has truly "accepted" your order.
At this point, sales have been literally up and down and up and down and up and down and up. I think attempts to predict are fun but not very practical. I am satisfied to watch and record and once it is all over I will post my graphs of what happened for all to enjoy.

Quote: Wonder how many orderes have been canceled when they saw the october ship date They jolly well better be shipping way before October. If not, then we've all been had! I'm not liking the sound of this. Can you please provide a source for the ship date you mentioned?
