Teach I have no way to every prove it and it has been discussed before, but I am in the camp that the big dealers do get special treatment from the mint and they may be allowed to order more is needed and/or get theirs shipped first to keep their business

Today's numbers are in and sales dropped only slightly over the weekend. We are now at 201,059 units. That makes the weekend rate 8490 per day, just below the last reported day sales of 8752. My SWAG model is now predicting final sales of 262551 sets.
Basbal21, the only special treatment the mint might give is the volume discount (a net 4%) but nothing else, and they may not even be getting that on this set. The TPGs however, do give the big dealers some very special treatment. What MCM may be referring to in their blurb is just that. I have never seen anything that would indicate any other kind of special treatment from the mint to large buyers of numismatic products.

Clair definitely know the TPGs do, I would love to be able to submit to them at the rate the dealers get.
I know weve debated it before and definitely dont want to start a big fight with anyone over it, but one way or another short of becoming a big dealer or the head of the mint well never know for sure what they do or do not get from them. If they did get special treatment they would all stay quiet about it. They may get a slight price discount but especially for this considering the presses are still going to be running if they needed more or wanted to swap some I believe they could. I live near dc and have seen what a cynical town it is and believe that if the mint feels its in their best interest to give them special treatment they will. Just my opinion though
I wonder if well see a bigger sales pick up after more places get power back in the east coast after that awful storm on friday. I just got power back last night and a lot of my area is still out

Looks like this set will have higher sales figures than the 2006 set.

The 2006 set is at 248,875, so it still has a ways to go. I would not count on that happening yet.

hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I was thinking that maybe the reason for 2 separate ship-dates could have been lobbied by the TPG's... The reason being that with 2 ship-dates (separated by more than 30+ days apart)the ER & FS designations could be offered for this set; otherwise, wouldn't the entire set be eligible for those designations if they all shipped on 7/27/12? just my 2-c Erik

But in all likelyhood the TPGs would want that since its 10-15 more for that on the label. They know it doesn't actually mean anything and are more than happy to slab anything with it that fits their time frame. There could be more at play for the ship dates, but most likely its just that all the sets they had premade sold out and need to do a 2nd run.

With 2 ship-dates, they can now make us feel like there is something special in paying the extra dough to designate or differentiate the ER & FS from the rest? Thanks for the Welcome and I really like this forum, you guys/gals sure do know a lot! Erik

Most of us know that the FS or ER label means nothing in regards to value anymore. It's just a gimmick by the TPG's.

It could, but I feel like people that really want the fs er wouldnt really be aware of that anyway. If you really like the fs er youll get it regardless, and if you really do think its is actually an fs or er than more than likely you wont be looking into any of the details of the set. Glad to have you here as well it really is a great forum hope you enjoy it

I am eagerly anticipating the addition of the third reverse proof to my collection. I feel that the 2012 s reverse proof will be the affordable example for the type collector but for me it will be required as with the 2012 s burnished to keep my set complete.

The reason for two distinct ship dates is really quite clear. The already minted what they were sure they would sell (looks like that was about 150k) and is waiting until sales conclude to mint the rest. No one in the second striking bunch will get any rejects from first pass returns. They might get unopened returns if there are any (would only likely be from large dealers) but by the time those returns get back to PBGS and reprocessed the new sets would probably be out and the returns put at the end of the line.
The next two days are the big question. Will sales continue to build to a final day crescendo or was yesterday's 16,292 about as high as we will see at the end? If the last three reports are all about the same (16K), then we will see a final at about 266K. I will add two or three more sets to the total myself. I was going to get two more for my family and I might get one or two for a friend who is out of the loop right now. I am not sure how I am going to order, one set at a time to be able to keep them unopened individually (like I did with the 2011 sets) or in pairs (to get the shipping upgrade).
