I'm interested in die-making processes for 19th C. coins, and this Russian 2 Kopecks shows evidence of lathe lines left on the die blank after hubbing (arrows). Is this common to these coins?

Yes--there's an element of spectacle to even these copper coins. Tsarist Russia was really into extravagance.

Good day, DVCollector! Yes it is common on this type coins from 1859-66.
Here is my 2 kopeck 1860 and 5 kopeck 1865 with similar lines:
