2002 P Roosevelt Dime Color Different And No Shine At All

DawnR76 New Member United States 10 Posts	Posted 03/31/2013 01:28 am I found this 2002 P Roosevelt dime that stuck out immediately because the color was off. I had all my dimes lined up from the 60's to most recent, and out of all the years the color of this one did not match up at all. So I found another dime of that year and mint, and colors did not match. This dime isn't shiny at all, but features aren't worn either. Here are the pics of both dimes, both sides. 1st coin normal luster, 2nd coin is different, no luster. In this second pic I changed the order of the coins to make sure that lighting wasn't affecting the picture. 1 coin is coin in question, 2nd coin normal. First coin in this pic is normal one, second one is weird one. The coin is matte it seems, is that what you think it is - a matte dime? Report this Post to the Staff

Dave42 Pillar of the Community United States 571 Posts	Posted 03/31/2013 10:29 am Exposure to the environment or chemicals can cause this sort of thing. It's possible the coin spent a long period outside exposed to the weather, water, whatever and caused the luster to fade and discolor. Or someone could have dipped it in some sort of chemical for a science project. Dave Report this Post to the Staff
