Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew something about this railroad check token. I believe that it is Erie Rail Road. I bought it in a collection of US coins and I do not know much about it. If anyone has any information on origin, age, rarity, and value it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Decades ago TAMS Journal ran an article about similar looking tokens which I think were for fire wood for the locomotives. This may be something similar.

Yeah I have been doing more research as well. I have not found another one identical, however, I have found a few rail road tokens that say "check" which were used to get tools, coal, etc. I am beginning to wonder if this token is unique or nearly so.

E.R.R. is Erie Rail Road. I am sure that "check" tokens were used to tally payments for wood, coal or labor. This token looks too well struck or new to me so I suspect it could be a modern copy or fantasy. There is a book "RAILROADIANA" by dealers Bill & Sue Knous who also run auctions of RR collectibles. Search google for them. Their first edition book which I have does not list check tokens. Their second edition I am told is much more complete but I have not seen a copy yet.
