Looking good. I've checked on mine a couple times now, but the only noticeable difference is that the exposed zinc lost its luster quite quickly.

I have noticed when metal detecting a farm field where chemicals are used, the Copper coins are close to destroyed while Silver still looks okay. Maybe put them in a garden with fertilizer for awhile. I am thinking the Zinc cents would be toast soon.

I'll have to check the shed for some fertilizer...they are already planted in the "penny farm"

I just went back and read the whole thread since I hadn't checked it since I first saw it the first day. It seems Numisma was beat me to it thinking along the same lines as I was with breaking the zinc coating and goign with a bury in the ground route. I just made these tonight and will be putting them outside tomorrow. All of the coins will start out the same UNC Red grade. I counter stamped one set of Zincolns to see if breaking the copper plating would speed up the corrosion. The 2009's are as minted (and I weighed them to make sure they weren;t mint set coppers) I don;t think counter stamping the coppers will have any affect. The & will be going into the dirt, the C will be sitting out in the air on a concrete slab, and the O will be sitting out in the air on a piece of wood.

After the pictures they were buried shallow in the same area with a handful of weed and feed mixed into the soil. I can't believe it is December 11th, Looking at a high in the 60's today. I took a walk with short sleeve t shirt today, but rain starts tomorrow, so will give the coins a good soak in the fertilized soil.

We're having average daytime temps in the upper 40s to low 50s recently. The weather's been crazy though, recently- it hasn't snowed here (abt. 500 ft elevation) in years, and it got up to 110 degrees F a few years ago in July.

I finally went out today and put the coins out. I still need to get the other 3 buried.

Hmmm, someone should do this experiment with a coin in a cup full of water that has chlorine in it.
