Quote: I consider any dollar coin after 1987 a loon/loonie, I use those names interchangeably. If you're talking Canadian Dollar coins, my mind flips to the Voyageur design I don't think I use different criteria but my specification & terminology is a little different... - A "Loon dollar" is anything 11 sided and 26.5mm in diameter. This includes the circulation bronze/aureate, Specimen, Silver proof etc. since 1987. - A "Silver dollar" covers the 36mm silver dollar issued up to 1967 for circulation and since in Proof. - A "Nickel dollar" is the 32mm replacement (bridging format) from 1968-1987 covering the period between the circulating Silver dollar and the Loon dollar. There are other form factors... there have been small gold $1 coins, a 38mm, 34mm piedfort proof, and various re-imagined/re-issues in proof 5oz and 2oz but they are the odd ones and rarely lumped together with the three classifications above. I am not driven to "complete" a set of Loons. I collect circulation, proof, specimen but I tend to skip the "giftware" releases... graduation, anniversary, birth etc. Of all of the above, the Nickel dollars are the most overlooked. Small series, affordable with the exception of a few rare varieties and fairly easy to acquire.

I totally agree, I had my nickel dollars completed first(I believe just the 1987 was the nifc)and still slowly plugging away at loons. Silver dollars will ultimately take a back seat due to cost.

I messed up saying all dollars after 87 are loons, but I hope you got my drift. I'll keep my circulation set going, but like you others, I don't really buy the giftware ones, unless I can't resist or for a gift. Great score Bill. 2 for 1. I'd have went back through the line again. .

@Dorado very cool was that token part of one of the mint's token sets?
I'm also looking for a loonie that has QE II with a covid face mask. I saw them once on a thread (here?) Does anyone know a source for one?

Quote: was that token part of one of the mint's token sets? I've heard tell that it was a souvenir available at the Mint. The buyer might have even been involved in it's striking. Not positive here, so correct me if need be. You did see the Queens covid mask here on CCF, and we are all on the lookout for one of these. There isn't a source that has them for sale, and I think the CCF crew figure, from the numbering on the edge, the mintage is very low. I could see one roll being all, so 25 coins. Good luck on your loonie hunt. .

I think I can post the loonies I found in my coinstar adventures here in Michigan at the store I work at ! Four of these were in the rejecto bin at the same time, the others were other times. Did I forget to mention one of these is a toonie ?

That's a good start to a loonie collection, or a coffee or 2 at Timmie's.

Scored this today from a $1.25 in change. The quarter was an 04 poppy as well, but very ugly. Now I need the no colour one.
