Here is a visual representation showing how often I have been finding key and semi key dates. The hunts before 4/28 are under 10,000 lots and everything past that date are 10,000 nickel hunts for consistency
Surprised the Nickelguy has not found any 1939D's. I was lucky to find one this week and I have found 4 others in the last two years with not nearly the volume of searching he has done. Great job cataloging his finds.
I'm starting to wonder if my city has been picked through of all the good nickels! I am surprised on the 30s key dates of being so difficult as well. We'll see what the next 10,000 brings
Just wondering what if any storage system you keep all these wonderful finds? I was fortunate to acquire from an old going out of business coin shop owner on his last day an entire Whitman100 tube nickel tray with box divider for $30, and I label the tops of the tubes for all the years and mints. When they fill up, I roll them up and Magic marker them and place them in a Nickel Bank Box. This way I can keep tabs on them. The BU and AU coins I check with my three albums for upgrades, then I put in 2X2 's and then into a 3 tab plastic sheets into a binder. My Nickel tube tray box is getting mighty heavy. But the more I get of the more common dates, then the more I can unload to rolls. Keep up the hunt, and don't neglect other local banks for customer rolled Nickels. I have a lot of luck with some collection dumps.
Finally getting started on the next batch of 10,000 and just went through the first box. 31 nickels for the Jefferson's, none from the 1930s though. Also found three dateless Buffalo nickels, however I got one of each mint mark. I'll give them a wash to see if I can get a date.
Great start, gonna get through another box before I go to bed, hopefully I'll have these done by Sunday night bringing the total to 150,000
Also found my first counter stamp nickel, a 2016-P. Pic is below. Anyone know what this particular stamp means?
