Just finished box number two and what a fun and stinky box, literally. Gross, sticky nickels again that smell like the worst cheap perfume and stale, dusty, faint cigarette smoky home. I had to open a window and the cats wouldn't come near me. Anyway, I found ANOTHER 1904 Liberty nickel and two more buffalos, one of them being a 1928-D. Currently at 244,000 nickels searched. I also found a beautiful 1939-P that would be considered uncirculated. However, it has very strange toning and is an off putting appearance. Still has luster, no visible scratches, but has some speck green copper corrosion. Just a bizarre coin. Pics are below.

Haha I've got a memory card in my scope, but it was 1am and I wasn't adding another task. Now that it is morning I realize that I was just being lazy haha. Not sure if I will get any nickels done today. I have a couple of open cases that I am wrapping up at the office and also need to change the oil in my vehicles while the weather is delightful today.
I have also rekindled my love of home audio and have been working on sound deadening my listening area. It is truly incredible how it has improved the sound quality in every aspect imaginable. The clarity of my voice for my nickel videos as also dramatically improved as a result which was an added bonus.

Felix in that one video reminded me of my own cat. He had to get right into your work with you! Just amazing finds. Fun to see how the stats keep pretty close to what you expect to find.
BTW...you mentioned slabbing some and preservation. Coins can degrade inside slabs. They are not airtight. Capsules and, believe it or not, 2X2s are the best way to keep circulating air from interacting with a coin's surface. Plus they can be a lot less expensive than paying a company to slab them. Any slabs I have (which is not many) get a packet of silica gel stored with them.

I have a box of 2x2 to put the nickels in. That is good to know about further degradation. The Liberty nickels I have been keeping in these plastic squares that I bought from the coin shop back in 2014. I guess I should have clarified that I would be placing these in 2x2. Thank you for correcting me on that. Felix is always in my business! He is a goofy cat for sure. I have been meaning to ask. How do I "Quote" when responding in here? Is there a tutorial as to how?

This is truly becoming the most exciting 10,000 nickels that I have searched. Low numbers tonight, and this box also smelled like the previous two. That aside I found a third Liberty nickel, a 1910 to be exact. I also found a 1938-P and an absolutely stunning 1939-P which appears to be in AU58. It looks, quite literally, brand new. No silver or buffalos in this batch. I have only found 3 1958-D nickels which is way, way way below average. This batch has been bizarre. I am now at 246,000 nickels searched with two boxes remaining.

Killer 1939 and also the harder to find Type II REV! That has to be a hard one to find in that condition with an estimate of only 108 million made vs. the 12 million Type I REV 1939-P nickels. BTW...the grading companies do not seem to know the easy way to tell with the serif on the S. They list the steps only as the difference. But when the steps are worn, the companies have no way to tell.

Quote: Killer 1939 and also the harder to find Type II REV! Holy schnikes! That is really cool! Thank you for pointing that out. Types and varieties is not something that I have really paid much attention to. Well, I am officially at 250,000 nickels and guess what. I still need the 1939-D and the 1943-D. I am going to have to see how many nickels it has been since my last addition to the album. Now I have $2,000 of searched nickels that I need to get rid of. Everything aside, this was an absolutely incredible hunt. A key date, some semi key dates, silver War Nickels, Buffalo nickels, Liberty nickels, and a 1939-P Type II in what appears to be and AU55 to AU58 condition. I am stunned with this batch to say the least. I'll put the video together over the weekend as time allows. I'll be ordering some nickels for next week and will try to keep at this for as long as possible. I am not sure at this point if I enjoy the thought of completing the set or gathering the data behind it more. It's all fun!
