Hi all,

Went to a local auction last night. There were some nice pieces auctioned, 1909 Quarter Eagle AU for 200, 1827 CB half in VF+ for 80, and an orphaned 1851 Gold $1 in AU which had a reserve of 175 and no bids. A nice 1914-D Half eagle went for 370 in AU. 5% buyers fee.

However, not once but three times, I observed lots being dropped on the floor by the auctioneers assisant. I visibly cringed each time, and I was sitting in the front so I coudn't see but I'll bet I wasn't the only one cringing! An old cardboard holder full of lincoln cents was held up for diplay, and *cling* one piece fell out. Yow!

Anyone ever see this kind of mishandling? Regale us, you numismatic raconteurs.....

Bruce

I've never seen that but I've never been to a live coin auction.

Were the coins "raw" going all the way to a hard surface? If they were in any type of holder it likely didn't do any damage but I'd want to see the coin before bidding again!

I would want to view the coins again before bidding.

You can bet I didn't bid on a single one of those lots. :D
