D Pillar of the Community Canada 899 Posts	Posted 12/15/2009 5:37 pm Going back in time and history I thought I would share information on tokens I have from the province of British Columbia. Information I have comes mainly from online searching and Leslie C. Hill 1980 book British Columbia Numismatica Trade Tokens Part 1. Rarity scale is the Standard Canadian Rarity Scale prepared by the Canadian Numismatic Research Society and used by Hill in his book. Enjoy.. Thanks I have checked in all my reference books, in all general and maverick tokens associated with British Columbia and cannot find any material in regards to Gassy Jack.. But having said that " I can tell you a little bit about Gassy Jack" He was a Fraser River boat pilot turned saloon owner, his name was Captain John "Gassy Jack" Deighton who had a gift for gab (he really liked to talk). This was in the 1860's and in those days the term "to gas" meant to talk alot. The name Gastown came into use because "Gassy Jack" was in 1867 the first settler on this site from which Vancouver was to evolve. Report this Post to the Staff
