I have checked in all my reference books, in all general and maverick tokens associated with British Columbia and cannot find any material in regards to Gassy Jack..
But having said that " I can tell you a little bit about Gassy Jack"
He was a Fraser River boat pilot turned saloon owner, his name was Captain John "Gassy Jack" Deighton who had a gift for gab (he really liked to talk). This was in the 1860's and in those days the term "to gas" meant to talk alot. The name Gastown came into use because "Gassy Jack" was in 1867 the first settler on this site from which Vancouver was to evolve.
