Not sure. It looks like it might be, especially on the upper inside right.

I got 5 Ikes today at the bank..the teller gal got my blood pressure up when she said...oh..I have 5 SILVER dollars for you! I'm having visions of Morgans and Peace dollars running through my head...but they were all Ikes, but I still like them! Three 1972-D's and a 1974-D and a 1978-D.

Latest purchase;

1971 S Proof "Peg-Leg"

Not as valuable as the 71S UNC Peg Leg, but check out the other bottom leg of the are on this one.

Looks almost polished off also. I'm kind of surprised to see this on a Proof Dollar.

Which sites would you recommend for Ike variety and error info? I have several Ikes and honestly don't know any thing about them.

Chuck,
Is there something missing or not right with the Type 2 Earth
on the 71-S Proof ?
Specifically to the South East of the tip of Florida

Terry: Good Eyes!

Your're right! something isn't right with the islands below Florida.
Almost looks like doubling?

Here are some close-up pics of this coin and then another normal,non-peg leg, 71S Proof that I have for comparison.

What do you think?

Chuck.

Chuck,

From the up close pictures that is exactly what
it looks like is some nicely separated doubling

Been running across a lot of weird things with the Earth
the last year. I have a 72-S BS with No Mega Island at all
Freaky

No Mega Island?
Any premium for something like that?

*Thanks again for the pick-up on this one Terry!

I posted these pics over at the Ike Group also.

Chuck,
I have no idea as far as a premium on the missing Mega Island
Have not really looked into it. I have been trying to figure out
how it came about. But nothing yet. So the research continues.

No problem on lending the eye balls, That is how we get
to find some of these great varieties in the Ike series.
The more eyes the better. Lord knows I went a long time
with a certain 71-D FEV in an air-tite in my pocket showing
it to friends and family to explain the difference between
a regular 71-D and a 71-D FEV
without even noticing what other goodies were on the coin

1972S Business Strike " Blue Ike"

Just got this in the other day along with a few other ike's.

In re-checking these , I noticed split serifs on the BER of Liberty
especially the base of the letter B (Pic # 7)

Legit, or too minor to be bothered with?

I am not sure what the rest of the crew will say.
But in my opinion Split Serifs = Doubled Die
Whether it is major or minor is a decision that I always defer to
the experts in the study of doubling and varieties.
