It is nice to see some Brown Box Ike's
still in the original government holders
most seem to get peeled out.
Nice coins also

Guilty.

One of the things on my "long list" of collection ideas is to get all of the blue and brown Ikes again, but leave them in the OGP as a set. I am usually not a big fan of OGP, but being a fan on the Eisenhower dollar, it seems like a good idea from a historical perspective.

For what it is worth, I still have the OGP for the Eisenhower dollars in my Dansco album (blue and brown). They are stored away in a box with all the other empty proof set lenses.

JBuck,

I have had to peel some out my self. But only out
of the blue packs so far. If I find an exceptional
specimen or a variety of some kind. The Blue Packs
are horrendous for trying to see the detail or beauty
of a coin. So those are the only one I have had to open
so far. Brown Boxes do actually allow you to study
the coin and see it quite well along with protecting it.
But if not stored properly they can get that milky haze on them.
I personally like that Blue toning that some of them get
that is so prevalent on the 74's like the one above.
I think the only reason I like keeping them in the original
holders is because back in 79-80 at just one local coin shop
I saw brown and blue Ike's come in by the moving box full
anywhere between 5 and 10 boxes at a time for weeks
on end I was at this shop three times a week back then
They were immediately broken out and shipped to the smelter.
I always thought that if that is happening at just one shop
in one town how many are even going to be left.
Even today one local shop gets them in to list on e-bay and sell
in the store and they break them out soon as they hit the shop.
So I just leave as many as possible in the original holder.
Who knows maybe someday the grand kids or great grand kids
may greatly appreciate it

A decent 1971-D Eisenhower Talon Head Die Clash
with a little bit of a Jawline Die Clash.
finally got around to getting some shots of
it. after taking a break for awhile.

Which is almost exactly what my 74-S silver proof looks like.

When it came time to fill those slots in my Dansco, I had a difficult time finding decent ones that had been freed. Most of them were from albums that were not taken care of and looked horrendous! I finally opted for the decent brown boxes I found. Breaking them out actually gave me the courage to eventually break apart all of my proof sets for the albums.

Peaceman posted this coin over at the Modern error/variety forum.

What do you think? I say it's a die clash, based on the article from the Ike Group's eye clash- July 2009)

I posted a pic of this over there also for expert help.

Chuck,
After going back and doing a re-read of the Eye-Clash Article
to refresh myself on the subject. I would have to say
you hit the nail on the head. I looks like a dead ringer for an
Eye-Clashed Ike. Good Eyes and Good Memory.
It had been awhile since I had read the article when I found some of those I think it was last summer if memory serves me correctly
(Which sometimes it does not)

Here is the link to the Eye Clash Article if any one wants a good read.

Terry, you got it right, split serifs = Doubled Die!

The 1972S Uncir Blue Ike- BER Split Serifs.

I sent pictures to Dr Wiles (CONECA)

According to DR Wiles:

It is a DDO, however, it is too minor to list.

I'm happy- it's a DDO!

* the coins I sent to ANACS- Scheduled for return around April 22nd- according to Mr De Felice (VP- ANACS)

I'll post pics once they are back! Can't wait to see about the 72P Type 2 new or EDS March? and the 71D DDO / DDR/FEV "Discovery Coin" (I HOPE!)

Chuck.

CONGRATULATIONS my fellow Ike Nut

I have often wondered about the "To Minor to List"
Designation, then one day I thought about
all the Morgan and Peace dollar VAM's
where the most minute variation in detail was enough to
get it a VAM number. Then I remembered that Van Allen and Mallis
had Very detailed mint records for the Morgan and Peace series
in which to work with. Which we to date do not have nearly
the amount of detailed records to work from with the
Eisenhower series.
I wonder if that has something to do with the large amount of
"To Minor to List" designations Ike's receive.
Just another Ike mystery to be figured out.
I think that is why I moved from VAM collecting to the Ike series.
Nothing like getting in on the ground level of concentrated study
of a series. Imagine what it was like when the the VAM hunting
first began, A whole bunch of fun and excitement like with
Ike's today.

I can't wait to here about the other two coins also
waiting for a discovery designation is like waiting
on Santa to come when were a kid Huh?
Isn't it great.

Terry
