Yes, AU-55 with luster intact in protected areas between stars and letters but dulled in the open fields. Looks original and un-cleaned and well-struck as is typical. The hit on the cheek is a distraction. There is not a tremendous price difference between an AU and an MS-62 for this date so it shouldn't be too expensive to upgrade.
I don't know about VAM values for the 1878-CC. I wonder if any forum members can advise on whether this coin is a scarce variety?
