The pic is a little dark but it looks like the pointed variety. IMO

Although there doesn't appear to be much difference between them, I compared the blunt and the pointed ones that I had purchased a few years ago and yours certainly appears to match the pointed one.

I knew that I had seen a reference to this variety somewhere and not finding it on the internet, I located it in a Ken Potter column of several years ago in Canadian Coin News.... Per that article,it was found on 1979 Proof Like coins where some used a 1978 Obverse (Pointed) and others a 1979/1980 Obverse (Blunt). This variety enjoyed popularity for several years but has lost its popularity lately. It is recorded in Ken's 'Variety Coin Register'.

Compared my coin with 1980 determined it is pointed.
Thanks pginrh

Not a lot of clarification on this topic. So I posted these photos to help determine Round or Pointed Bust.

Do you have the full size images of both coins? I'm trying to get a full set of ENORMOUS photos of most varieties of every Canadian coin for my coin club's web site, and I'm having a lot of trouble finding a really nice quality set of images for the pointed bust variety. If you have these photos I would like to put them up (and of course give you FULL credit as the source of the photos)...

Your photos are the best I've found showing ALL of the obverse differences. Would you mind if I used them in a 50 cent varieties guide I have on the Saskatoon Coin Club web site?
Of course I would give you full image credit...
