Ballpark?
Any input appreciated. "Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

It would really depend on the coin, a vicky 50 cent is very different a than 1967 quarter, one would sell for melt, the other would likely still have a good premium, depending on size, location, etc... I think a picture is really needed.

Tough question. I would think it would depend on the coin too. If it was a '53 mule nickel, I wouldn't be too concerned since scratches are pretty normal wear for those nickels, but I think it would take a pretty nice chunk off a regular coin that is readily found without such blemishes.

I think it also depends on the scratch. Some are barely worth mentioning and some are yikes that's horrible.

I didn't think that you could have an MS coin that was scratched, unless it was a staple scratch. Doesn't that make it "not mint state"?

A year would be helpful, answer will vary greatly for a 1915, 1921,1925, 1926 vs. other dates. If it was a common date, I probably wouldn't even bother with it (depending on scratch), a rarer coin would reconsider.

My rule of thumb is any comment like scratch, corrosion, mark etc is to reduce value by minimum 50%. Then go down further depending on what it actually looks like. I generally won't bother at all with anything from the 60's or more recent; easy enough to find undamaged examples so not worth the effort. As @chequer mentioned, I might go a bit higher on a hard to find coin like a '53 mule nickel.
