I bought a large lot of coins from a storage auction a few years ago, finally getting through them and I found this Wheat cent with a braided edge on both the top and bottom. Haven't seen anything else like it.
Any help is appreciated.

To CCF! It's PMD. Maybe encased at one time? http://www.encasedcoins.info/

@todd, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes those rims have been altered. Someone had too much time on their hands I think.

And it took them a while to do it . I had one similar where they tried to make it look like the Wheat cent had reads on the edges they didn't do a very good job yours looks better for sure .

Could have been a lot of things but looks for sure to be PMD. Maybe someone in a trench, during wartime, with a knife and nothing more to do.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I was afraid of that, but it just looked really well done, hoping for some oddity. Again, thanks for your help. I look forward to being a member.

to the CCF It's too uniform to be made one mark at a time by hand. I think it was put through a knurlier of some kind.
