I still write one a month for rent. Landlord charges ridiculous fees for any kind of debit or credit card and offers no kind of online payment. Have to drive across town once a month to put the payment in their little slot.

I still write a few checks to avoid high credit card fees, but I could replace those with ACH payments. The few remaining checks I write, like for our yard guy and handymen we use for landscaping and work on our house, I could just switch to cash. So, if checks were done away with I wouldn't really be bothered by it.

In the US, with the Check21 law, checks are defacto gone anyway.
As soon as the physical piece of paper hits the high-volume side of the payment world -- teller, atm, big box store, moble deposit, etc. -- it's converted to an eCheck (ACH debit). The scanned image flows with this, and the physical paper is either returned to the customer or destroyed.

I write two checks a year to pay property taxes in person, every other method of payment has fees associated with them. Paying a fee to pay taxes just doesn't work for me.

The local Butcher shop, like many small businesses here, only accepts cash or checks. So, it is either write a check or go to an ATM and pull out some cash.

And for what it is worth, savings accounts are called Share accounts. CUs are member owned.  |
