Is This An Error...maybe A Grease Filled Die?

MINT_MARQ Pillar of the Community United States 1000 Posts	Posted 03/20/2011 4:43 pm So I rolled searched a box of nickels for the first time...and I have to say it was quite boring... I found nothing until the last three rolls...And then I found a dateless Buffalo And than this 1999 nickel. The reverse is in AU to BU condition the obverse looks ugly. At first glance I thought damage...but considering the back I am think an error...maybe a Grease Filled Die. Any opinions (I took three pics of the obverse to try to capture different light angles)? MINT_MARQ Pillar of the Community United States 1000 Posts	Posted 03/21/2011 07:42 am Thanks.... These were taken with my wife's Canon Rebel SLR...sitting on my porch. Coin is on a piece of white paper and it was a overcast 42 degree day in Michigan. If anything I would probably give most of the credit for a good photo to the camera. Report this Post to the Staff
coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 03/21/2011 11:06 am Well it is both. The dies that struck the nickel are in the LDS/VLDS die state. And the coin has a struck through error on both sides. The reverse has less great affect to it. I would save that one. When they get extreme, people do collect them. Report this Post to the Staff
