Doubling On 1991 Lincoln Cent - Coin Community Forum

xquercus New Member United States 24 Posts	Posted 11/14/2011 8:20 pm I've Been reading about various causes of doubling and found this Lincoln Cent in my change the other day. There is slight doubling in the "In God We Trust". It looks to me to be Strike Doubling -- like the die slightly sheared across the face of the planchette leaving two impressions of the letters "GOD". What about the "LIB" in "Liberty". Any thoughts on what caused this? Is it Strike Doubling? It just looks so smooth but maybe that's because the coin is so circulated. Report this Post to the Staff

Buddy Rest in Peace United States 7075 Posts	Posted 11/14/2011 10:02 pm I'm kind of new at this so I was about to be brazen and just go ahead and say it was Die Deterioration and then wait to be corrected. But I see that John1 had the same thought. The reason I had for going with Die Deterioration is that I just read about how a worn die will develop wear that creates a raised area (the opposite)on the coin and since it appears just here and there I would guess that to be the cause.
