I have a $10 Indian 1916 which has no mint mark. However all references to 1916 show the coin was only minted in the San Francisco mint (ie. 1916-S). The coin is exact weight and size and looks about AU55. Any ideas?

Interesting. You're right in noting that no Eagles were produced in Philadelphia in 1916. In AU condition, I'd think a mechanical operation to remove the mint mark would be obvious (although I wouldn't know why someone would do it), but a Grease Fill is not out of the question.

Of course, the alternative is to question its' authenticity.
