http://www.ebay.com/itm/1929-S-Stan...em3cbbe9e1f3What do you guys think of this? Looking for one for my 7070 but don't know much of the series. Do the pictures look accurate or like it is hiding something? Is this a good buy or should I keep looking. p.s. I know it is buy it now and someone can sneak up and take it. All well. I figured if it was a super awesome buy it would be sold already anyway.

Well it's not ms64, and it appears to be cleaned. See what others think.

Yeah I knew right off the bat it wasn't ms64. and I saw some possible hairline scratches on the reverse.

The photography is plainly suspect, but due to the seller's lack of skill rather than any deliberate deception. He's got a big-megapixel camera and little idea how to use it.
He offers a nice coin I might have a serious look at, at EF45-AU50 money. I hesitate to pronounce it cleaned, because the striations seem to be confined to the lower part of the reverse. I don't know what that money is for this issue; you gotta determine that.
A qualified "maybe." Is $130 in your risk range?

yeah I too was questioning the photography. some people deliberately trick people, others just really don't know how to photograph.
So superdave, you don't think it's cleaned, based on what you can see? I might take a gamble. At least there is a return policy!

Quote: So superdave, you don't think it's cleaned, based on what you can see? A very cautious "no." That said, this one is firmly in the "calculated risk" category, and I wouldn't go over AU55 money for it. That, for this coin, is $30 below the asking price. Move on, my friend. There will be another.

Easy enough to check seller history to get an idea of what their photography skills are like. Or if they even know what coins are... :X

I was just about to say, AU money is in order here. I would hold off, especially if you favor an MS example. Some could be had for not too much like the 1930 for example.

From those pics, I would hazard a guess at AU-58. Looks likely to be dipped, but it doesn't look from the pics to be bad enough to warrant a problem slab.

As an SLQ enthusiast who has viewed thousands of ebay ads and slabbed photos and who has absorbed the knowledge presented on this forum most higher end SLQ's that have been held in collections over the years have beed dipped or cleaned as it was the norm back in the day. The Type 3 1925-1930 SLQ's were weakly struck in the head and shield areas. Even MS uncleaned examples have concave heads and are missing 2 or more shield rivets and shiled centers. I say buy a coin you like, keep it to yourself and enjoy it. I buy coins I like and want. If they had been cleaned so be it. If I posted them and was shot down that they had been cleaned, I over paid, or what have you I might hate that coin from now til the day I get rid of it. If you like the coin, buy it and enjoy it. My SLQ's (some have since been upgraded and hope to have some better pics up once I get the Capitol metal screws to replace the plastic ones for the case when I crack it open again ) https://goccf.com/t/101524https://goccf.com/t/99173

@cd_god How thick is this holder for your set? Is it three separate pieces of plastic? I have never seen one of these in hand and am wondering if they are made the way I made a holder for some of my Canadian nickels. I had a bottom piece, a middle one with holes drilled for the coins, and a top piece. Since I used 1/8" plastic, the whole thing came out reasonably thin. Does it seem they used the same thickness of plastic? BTW - thanks for sharing your pics - this is an incredible looking set . maybe one day....
