Here's a head up. The 1913 $5 hand picked gold coin is now web only. That likely means stock is going low on that coin. If you want the cheapest piece of history still available, I suggest you order soon. After the $500 coins are gone, that means the next price level is $1000.

Also, the 1912 hand picked gold coin is now web only too. That probably means they are running out of stock. 1912 seems to have the least available.

Just ordered a 1912 $10 hand picked gold coin after reading MoneyPenney's posting. I already ordered 3 $5 1914 hand picked which is the max I can order. How come I still can order more by using same address?

I'm surprised how popular these are. Are people buying from an invest stand point or as collectors?

@DoobyRak:

According to the people's posts, from the page 6, where the "sale started", most interesting in these coins as affordable collectible item.

As per mine understanding, the future price of these coins (most of them) will depend on the price of gold.

I've bough mine $5 as exception (I do not collect gold) to have real old gold coin, in good condition with beautiful design. Actually this is our Canada here... And as people mentioned, with current gold price the premium on the $5 not so high.

To the people who knows:

I am not planning to send the coin for grading.
Does the grading add to the coin non-monetary value?

In other words:
without plans to sell it, is it important to grade the coin?

Will appreciate your opinion.

I think many people are going to do the same silveroid.

Increses in the grading population will drop the BV on these coins to bullion with the highest grades at a slight premium if that. Now if you think gold will be at $3000 plus within the next couple of years these are not to bad of a purchase at bullion

I'm more than a little curious about the quality of the coins here. I own a PCGS MS-64 graded $5 from 1912, and I'm desperately hoping (though without much optimism) that the quality of these coins lies in the MS-63 and below range. I certainly have a new appreciation for the frustration of collectors in the 1970s when the US government flooded the market with a massive hoard of Morgan dollars. Realistically, in the course of a few days, I've watched the value of my coin drop by approximately $700 through no fault of my own. Still a premium piece that I have no intention of selling, but I'll probably never recoup my investment in it.

As an aside, I would be extremely nervous if I owned one of the few known 1916-C sovereigns right now. I suspect there may be more than a few of those hidden in the same vaults.
