yes, but in the mint's statement, a number of these will be melted down. Will they keep track of those, so we can get a revised number of existing coins following the great melt down.

Here are some interesting numbers that commems posted earlier in this forum thread regarding the number of coins the mint is releasing in this sale: Premium Hand-Selected 6-Coin Set (140 sets - $12,000 each) Premium Hand-Selected 1912, 1913 and 1914 $5 single gold coins (291 coins - $875 each) Premium Hand-Selected 1913 and 1914 $10 single gold coins (4,869 coins - $1,750 each) Hand-Selected 1912, 1913 and 1914 $5 single gold coins (5,050 coins - $500 each) Hand-Selected 1912, 1913 and 1914 $10 single gold coins (18,950 coins - $1,000 each)
@ peanut905, unfortunately even if you wanted to call the mint to switch to the 1912 $10 it has been sold out for some time already. These release numbers might be helpful for someone trying to decide between the $10 hand-selected and premium hand-selected coins.

But we still don't know how many exist from private collectors. Does the mint list how many of each coin THEY have? And how many they plan to melt of each coin?

@ Shannoxt, I'm happy still. Thanks for the added info. All the Premium $5's are no longer available.

@Redzapsid, I haven't found any of those numbers but I agree that that would be very interesting and helpful information. On another note, I was just snooping around ebay looking at listings for these coins that were already in circulation. I personally think that people who are trying to sell these now (particularly the $5 coins) will probably experience a temporary spike in price because so many more people are now aware of these coins and interest is probably at an all-time high. Before this release, I was not even aware of these coins and now I'm searching them out. I bet there are a lot of people who missed out on the mint sale who will be searching these coins out as well. Just trying to add a positive spin on the situation for all of those people out there who are upset about this release because they are current owners of these coins.

okay so I just called RCM. Not sure how much the Rep knows. She said they released the following $10 gold coins. I think I might swap to the 1913. $10 1914 - 10,964 $10 1913 - 6,650 $10 1912 - 1,336

Even with the amount being melted, I don't see these coins holding more than gold bullion. I did buy all te coins available. As I see gold as a good investment in the future. We will see how these coins turn out when they arrive but I do see the market being flooded with these coins which will drive the prices down

Peanut905 - Maybe you should just add the 1913 to your order!

so what did you order :) I did a quick calculation, I found mintage numbers from http://world.mintnewsblog.com/2012/11/ - no sure if I can post links. I do not know how reliable these sources are. I am holding onto the $10 1914 order I made, even though more have been released. Being released: 1913 - 6650 1914 - 10,964 Historic Mintage: The mintages for the $10 Gold Coins are listed at 74,759 (1912), 149,232 (1913), and 140,068 (1914). Total Mintage: 1913 total - 155,882 1914 total - 151,032

I only ordered one of 1924 coins. BTW, has anyone tried to cancel an order? Just curious since these are "final sale", no returns or exchanges so I wonder what would happen if one tried to cancel an order.

If you made a web order and check the status of that order in your online profile, there is a cancellation request button. I'm guessing that you can cancel your order up until it ships. Pretty sure they just mean you cannot return or exchange the coin once you receive it since it could mean they get a whole bunch of people saying that the condition wasn't what they expected and wanting to return their order. That would be a nightmare for the mint. Sure hope this isn't a sign that the quality will be extremely poor on these coins and the mint is protecting themselves agains a whole bunch of angry customers.

CC-Ottawa, did you mean the 1914? I am wondering if its worth it to upgrade to the Premium now. They better ship or sell out soon hahaha.

Yes the request button is active but the cancellation request is just that, a request. The mint doesn't always honour those requests as many people have noted in the past. And I have never seen a coin sold by the RCM that specifically says 'all sales are final' with all of the meaning implied by that phrase. Here's why I ask. They are sending out 30k coins. Once these hit the street, we may find that the relative grade is below what we might expect, or the market price might drop or some people may have second thoughts about the long term investment potential. I can envision that anyone who hasn't received their coin yet, after see what is actually released, might suddenly want to cancel their order if it hasn't shipped. Talk about a nightmare. edit: yes, I ordered the 1914 $5 HS. Probably would have gone with a premium except I've spent too much this year already at the Mint and once they send out the Penny sets, plus the holidays, my CC statement will have taken a vicious beating. I personally think the Premium coins will be spectacular grades.
