Quote: 3x $1,750) + (3x $875) = $7,875 From $12,000 = $4,125 more than the coins individually. Either it's a solid gold trimmed case, or these are even better than the 'premium hand selected' ones. imho. One correction. "3x $1750". That is wrong, "2x $1750" is correct because only 1913 and 1914 had $10 Premium Hand Picked coins available. You could not buy a 1912 $10 Premium hand picked coin. They are only available in the 6 coin Premium set. So may we calculated the price of the 1912 Premium Hand Picked $10 like this: 2x $1750= $3500, 3x $875= $2625. $3500 + $2625= $6125. Since only the $12,000 coin set have the Premium 1912 $10 coin, $12,000- $6125= $5875. So actually, it is $5875 more than the available individual premium coins.

New to this forum, but there is a lot of familiar names here from members of the cdnpapermoney.com and the canadiancoin.com sites. I enjoy reading all the discussions here. Personally, I ordered all six hand selected gold coins. I was tempted to get the six coin premium set, but the price is so hefty. There is too much risk with site unseen and if it turns out to be a dud, no refunds. Most staff at the Mint are not educated enough at coin grading, that anything shiny looks new to them, although there could be lots of wear. Also, most staff aren't serious collectors of coins, besides picking up a modern set here and there. So the least amount of risk is the hand selected gold pieces which has a 20% premium to current gold prices. It is a small premium to pay considering the history and the beauty of these coins. The complaints from the RCM Vintage Silver Dollar Collection sale is significant with many stating they are silver dollars not in MS quality.

^^^^^ That is cetainly nice to know. I bought one each of the 1913 and 1914 $5 gold coins. Too bad I missed out on the 1912 $5 coin since it was sold out.
Do you guys know if coin dealers will sell these gold coins? I would like to complete my set.

BTW, for those who think the premium HS are just as good, J&M will sell you an MS63 1912 $10 for $2500 to complete your own set saving you over $3k. Obviously the Mint folks believe the 6 coin sets are better than the premium HS or you have to believe that they are hoping to severely p* off their best customers - those willing to drop $12k on 6 coins. Also the idea that they had a bunch of unskilled workers sorting the coins is crazy. I'm willing to bet that there are plenty of staff at the RCM with considerable knowledge of coins and grading and that those people hand selected the coins. They were then likely double and triple checked by others to ensure a standard of quality in the coins offered to the public.

This same ebay seller now listed another presale $5 HS 1914 as a buy it now for $979. If you have extra to sell, now is the time to do it while interest in these coins is at an all-time high.

Do you think dealers got a price discount on these gold coins like they do on other mint products?

The listings on ebay that are previously referenced are from a dealer - Angus Coin Shop in Ontario. Maybe they did not purchase them as a dealer but it made me curious.

Quote: I ordered all six hand selected gold coins, and fortunate to have very close friends in Alberta (to save on provincial sales tax). While the chances of being caught are virtually zero, technically, this is an illegal activity (tax evasion) best not discussed on an open forum. Is Angus really a dealer? Sells on ebay and Kijiji. I always assumed it's just some 'guy' like little debbie's no-so-fun stuff or the Donn Shop etc etc.
